You get £32.2 million in prize money alone just for reaching the last 16, and TV money on top of that.
Read my latest post after that one. If you win it then you get roughly €80m total.
In prize money. That doesn't include TV earnings or the coefficient payment, which would take the top team from the top league with the highest UEFA coefficient to possibly closer to £140 million in total payments from UEFA if they won. Example: Bayern netted €130m - or £116m - in 2020 for winning, when they finished 1st in the 3rd-best league by coefficient, and having the 4th-best club coefficient of teams participating in the CL.
However, that's immaterial for a team like Arsenal. Getting 3 wins and a draw in the group stage and being eliminated in the last 16 would net them around £40-42 million a season in revenue from UEFA, plus matchday revenue (although all of these games are included in their ST price, I believe). Having a rolling 5-year net spend of £150 million makes sound financial sense, providing the strategy pays off and they finish in 4th place.
