Mahrez Signs New Deal

Postby Mase » Fri Jul 15, 2022 4:46 pm

Riyad Mahrez has signed a new two-year contract extension with Manchester City, penning a deal which will see the 31-year-old remain at the Club until June 2025.

The Algerian winger has become one of the integral figures in Pep Guardiola’s squad since joining us from Leicester City in the summer of 2018.

In the ensuing four seasons, Mahrez has helped City win three Premier League titles, three League Cups and an FA Cup along with reaching a maiden Champions League final.

To date, he has made 189 appearances for the Club, scoring 63 goals and contributing 45 assists.

"I'm very happy to sign the new deal," Mahrez said.

“I have enjoyed every single minute of my time here. It’s a pleasure to be part of such an incredible Club.

"To have helped us achieve the success we have enjoyed in the past four seasons has been unforgettable and made us all hungry to look to achieve even more.

"I would also like to thank Pep, Txiki and the coaching staff, both for the way they have helped me to develop as a player and for pushing me to continue to improve.

"Now I just want to try and play my part in helping us be successful next season and beyond."

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “Riyad has played a major part in our success in the four years since he joined us, and we are all delighted he has agreed this new deal.

Happy with this.

Hopefully him and Haaland can get some intuition going and smash it

Seems like they already have…

Haaland said of new teammate Mahrez: "He told me to come to City and he was right about that.
"We talked and he said some good things about the club."

Riyad Mahrez on meeting Erling Haaland on holiday last year. "I saw him in Mykonos and he said to me he
really wanted to come - I said you should because it's the best club. A year later he's here."

I would have cashed in to be honest.
But he is a fantastic footballer all around. Magnificent ball control.

Cashed in? Do we need the cash?
We have sold enough for one window, we will need him more than ever.
As pointed out he was excellent last season and his first touch is the best in the world.
People say it would have been good to see what Sterling could do with Haaland in the team. Well turn that to Mahrez playing with Haaland, that will be be scary.

Yeah, fair point.
Also there are not many options out there to replace someone like him.

Back pass Mahrez has a new deal, who would have thunk it. Pep's fav player by far but is a fail on the right side, never beats a player down the line and with Sterling and Jesus gone will be noticed much more. I'm hoping Alvarez hits the ground running to be honest, cause just like he misses crucial pens Mahrez could really go missing now we require more from him.

Must put a lot of those back passes into the net or on a plate for a team mate to score- have you seen his stats for the last 3 seasons.
Re the pens he's missed 2 crucial ones, scored a lot of crucial ones as well.
Aguero missed a crucial CL pen at Tottenham, KDB missed 1 against Liverpool as did Gundo and I'm sure the new guys will at some point.

derby day the scores were level,

silly boy should know for sure,

I forgave him after his PSG performances as well. Never be his biggest fan but it will be interesting to see how he works with the new strikers. Extending his contract also gives us an opportunity to get something for him in the future but as has been said, who comes into replace him

That one took a while alright. If we had of lost the league that season or last season id have blamed his pen misses.

Hopefully he never gets to take an important one for us again

TBF, apart from the klanfield disaster, he probably been our most reliable penalty taker since Yaya.

Since Sterling's departure, he should become even more important in City's attack. Him and Bernardo are about the only two players who can play on the right.

A brief analysis of his performances last season.
