set pieces

free kicks and corners were abysmal yesterday. mind blowing when you consider the talent taking them and the amount of specialist coaches we have. i see more invention and better execution in my lad’s u13 games

Corners have been shite for as long as I can remember. We did have the one season that they weren’t too bad (I remember Lescott doing okay) possibly 11/12? But generally we fail to beat the first man.

Kev looked like he couldn’t be arsed yesterday and should have been nowhere near a free kick.

Kevin’s free kick was shite but then no one pressed Alison to stop his quick punt and then Cancelo screwed up. A series of errors.

Never really thought that set plays were part of the Pep philosophy. He's just not that type of manager, its easy to see there isn't huge emphasis put on them. That's not going to change now.

Don't think we can practice them a lot. And if we score then great, but it will be in spite of Pep and not because if him.

How many direct free kicks have we scored in the last decade. When we have had some of the best players in that time.

Hopefully Peps replacement will put more focus on this because in tight games in might be the difference

We scored the most set piece goals in the PL last season.
We've scored 5 so far this season, 1 behind Spuds.

Yep but my response was to those saying how we don't practice them and it's not Pep's philosophy.

Maybe if we practised them we'd score even more. For a side that has so much possession in and around the opposition penalty area we don't take advantage as much as we should IMO

This , one bad free kick , that was all. Sometimes you have to expect that the oppositions defence will actually defend.

Mind boggles. Kev and foden can't take corners.

I agree with Mase, regardless of stats like "most goals" the odd year, that's because we average about 56 corners a game

Any stats on efficiency?

at least one bad free kick added to 6 woeful corners. that’s bad from the, newly crowned, team of the year
