A 'big' draw in the early stages of the EL knockouts is just what UEFA needs. 4 of the 5 biggest teams in the play-off round were drawn against each other last season: Barca v Napoli and Porto v Lazio, with Dortmund drawing Rangers and crashing out of the competition.

It would guarantee one of them being in the next round of the competition though would it?

Yes that is the other way of looking at it. Cannot get my head around the fact that the winners of this second tier competition get put into pot 1 of the chumps league - what a fucking carve up

I really liked it more when it was the UEFA Cup and had only knock out rounds.
UEFA did a number on this with smaller clubs. ”Here is a group stage, more revenue, more money, but ignore the UCL” and when some teams get in the UCL, they are crushed like Haifa or Rangers.

I'd go further. I think any form of seeding is effectively gaming a competition. Put another way, it is a form of rigging.

Course it is mate we all see it. Designed in an attempt to keep the old G14 clubs at the trough. Next we got the europa and that helps the old guard who have fallen on hard times - corrupt as you fucking like. Be interesting to see Monday's chumps leage draw and see whether the Haaland factor goes in our favour

My money says they keep us and PSG apart. They will want Haaland and Mbappe involved until the later stages to keep sponsors happy and majority of fans interested.
Others see it as an ideal opportunity to get one of UEFA's hated clubs eliminated.
IMO what they are not factoring in is that UEFA is all about the money. Money spinners like Barca and MU are already out so UEFA will be trying to keep both Haaland and Mbappe front and center.
