FIFA World Cup: Nearly 150 players will represent countries other than their nations of birth. Only four sides have all home-born players, with France (37) & Africa (more than 50) providing most of the footballers fighting for glory in other teams.

Sterling is the only England player born outside the country in this squad.

The moment they decided to give it to a medieval fucking regime I decided to ignore it .

My brother is going (again ) dressed as a knight from camelot , so he will be able to blend in nicely with the peasants from that country .

I’ll be focusing on everything but football for the next 6 weeks or so .

I wonder how long FIFA have known about this.

It may be that the decision was made months ago, but FIFA didn't want to release the info so as not to affect attendances, or Qatar is in the process of introducing a swathe of last-minute measures as revenge for bad press, which FIFA is powerless to prevent.

I have absolutely no doubt the decision was made a long time ago, i wonder what Budweiser will do, they pay $65M in sponsorship for the world cup (yes that will be globally, so will still make a bob or two) and clearly didn't know about it as they tweeted this morning "well this is awkward' (since taken down).

Either there is a shit tonne of beer now sat in a dry country or it was never shipped in first place.

I don't get it , Sole Sponsor of Beer , in this example Budweiser , not the real thing from Czech, but the shitty rice thing from the states. You have to serve it really cold because it taste crappy,

Last one was Heineken, All naff beers , Why do Fifa do this, multiple drinks sponsors means more competition and see who wins .

Wisely, the German beers are being saved for local consumption. THis WC is going to be a disaster, glad i am not watching anything.

It's whoever pays the most money who gets to sponsor it, and gets exclusivity rights.

Thing is, there's a hell of a lot of people in the world who drink crappy beer. When I first moved to Bosnia & Herzegovina, Heineken was seen as a 'luxury' beer (and still is, in certain crowds), and then Amstel started entering the B&H market when they sponsored something. I'd bet my bottom dollar it's the same in Central Asia, SE Asia and the MENA region.

Seeing a beer on TV is what makes youngsters want to buy it. FIFA/the brewery couldn't give two hoots about what punters in the stadium drink; the primary goal is visibility. And in such a scenario, auctioning off rights to multiple companies won't work.

All of 'em have got nothing on a Marston's Pedigree, or a good pint of Holts.

I realise the highest bidder gets it , but that is my point , there should be no bidding, just allow twenty or more Brewers to offer their beers. Get the money from the Tenders ( request for license ). The best beer wins.

wondering if NT will be bolling off in the Hospitality during the match ... Probably taking his seat for the second half twenty minutes after the whistle to restart the game has been blown,

The hosts and Hospitality , a contradiction in terms .

That would make sense if the profitability was from the people who drank beer there. Or drank beer and told their friends about it at home. But 16-year-old Yovaniliya Badmenkhakov in Uzbekistan is going to make his choice as to what beer to drink during the remainder of his teens and early 20s based on what he sees plastered across his TV screen this coming month. And if it's Holt's or Marston's, he's not going to be able to get it, so it's a waste of money for them to sponsor the competition or purchase a tender. And again, the 20-odd tender system won't work when a company's profit comes from exposure: exclusive screen time is key.

Csn you get Budwieser ( US beer ) on a regular basis in Uzbekistan ? I doubt it. And my Referece to Holt's or Marston's is not the point , That is just a preference . there should be no main sponsor. Who's the Bacon Sandwich sponsor there ?

Boycott this one. Don't watch it. 6500 workers dying is enough. Horrible. There are 523 other reasons to boycott it too.

I really don't care about this World Cup, I will not be watching, or take an interest.
This is in the middle of our domestic season.

I will care about the welfare of our City players, and I hope (and this maybe silly) is the teams of the City players are knocked out early, so they can rest.
Quatar was awardd the tournemant under very dubious circumstances.
I usually enjoy a World Cup at the end of a season...Not this one..God bless all the City players and may they all come back injury free

The important work is still to be done, starting in December....total fucking distraction, sorry!
