Yep. Just not the same as seeing those boys live and soaking in the atmosphere. I feel for them, wish they could see them live.

Great to see Phillips back and he looks like he’ll be a good backup for Rodri, who I thought was a contender for MOTM today.

Haaland well rested. Gundo and Kev also.

Foden didn’t play well but got a good goal so hopefully it’ll give him some confidence.

Laporte and Akanji looked good together, although they weren’t tested much. Good to see Laporte back.

Pep’s subs were spot on.

On to the next one.

We were at it today and it showed that not many teams can take us on in such close times. Jenas seemed to intimate that Chelsea had a share of the first half but I didn’t see that. Yes, we conceded the ball at times but at no team did they really worry us, they didn’t even half a shot on goal in the first half.

Seeing the likes of Gomez and Phillips getting some game, and the way they played, gave me hope for them going forward.

Interestingly, I asked prior to the game if we’d revert back to how we’ve played over the last few years without a recognised striker. It wasn’t quite that with Alvarez on there but I thought we did revert back and it worked very well.

Great win. We needed a win, any win but we did it in style. Same again on Wednesday would be perfect. If we want to win any of these cups we are going to have to do it the hard way.

Special mention for kuolibally who was forever linked with us, he was shite tonight and shite on Thursday. Another bullet dodged.

Prat kept on saying that before the goal it was an even game.
As far as I saw the chavs barely managed to get out of their own half in that period.

As with any cup tie the end game is to be in the next round.

We did that very comfortably against a rival PL outfit.

Goals for Mahrez, Alvarez and Foden will have improved their confidence no end

A clean sheet once again for the goalie who thanks to a disciplined defence had very little to do but was quietly efficient. A big upgrade on Steffen as back up.

Phillips got some good minutes and looked at home.

So all in all, a rather pleasing afternoon’s work

Great performance that. I hope we win at least one cup this year.
Funny, but the media has zero mentions about a possible quadruple. Last year they were having a wank every time they talked about the scouse.

Oddly enough, I really feel a lot calmer when they are on the break and I see Ortega instead of Eddie.

Alvarez reminds me of Aguero - drops deep, links up play, looks to get on the end of things - for me a similar sort of performance to a few years ago now.

Gomes I thought looked dodgy defensively and caught out upfield - not sure he’s an improvement on Zinchenko

Mind there is something about Akanji I like - sold defender, doesn’t really do anything noticeable, nothing flash but just a real solid player who does the basics - exactly what we need and a bargain at the price we got him for. Pretty sure Ortega didn’t have a single save to make which say as much about how we defended (bern centre half defensive headers!) as it did Chelsea attacking

Good performances all around, Bernardo was good as usual, made some crucial defensive contributions

Alvarez is very much like Aguero but only in the latter years when Pep changed his way of playing, basically getting him to track back.

As always, it takes a bit of time for players to step into Pep’s team and the new lads will be no different. Gomez is very much like Zinch for me but does not yet have that confidence/arrogance that Zinch had. There is something there though and was one of my star players today.

As for Akanji, it’s like he’s always been part of our squad, he’s a perfect fit.

Such a great all-around player, the amount of times he sees the danger and steps into the defensive shape is no coincidence.

Mine got the full education so that they were aware but how lucky were they that they got their first season ticket (odd games prior) in 2010. First Wembley game was the FA Cup semi against the Rags and then there for the Aguero moment.

It’s the way we communicate ;-)

Whatever happens, if there is ever some form of fall-out between them/you, this will always bring things back together.

Looks like the big game of the day will be one of the last on MotD. Wish I’d saved a beer.

Loads of positives from yesterday. Phillips looked really good when he came on with his distribution and his tackling. If he can stay fit he could be a strong addition to the squad going forward. Laporte back as good as ever. Mahrez getting back to his best, good 90 minutes for Alvarez. Only negative is Palmer who just seems to constantly lack an end product.
