Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

View from the swamp

Postby CuteMancs » Thu Jan 12, 2023 8:11 pm

I’ve never ever been fond of the derby, I get so stressed. More recently I worry that Pep does know what it means to Blues. All that combined with what happened on Wednesday night and I might just not make it through Saturday. It’s a mixed bag of comments from the rags, but generally they are pretty confident, apparently they could win the league!

COME ON CITY!!!

Referee: Stuart Attwell
Assistants: Gary Beswick, Darren Cann
Fourth official: Robert Jones
VAR: Michael Oliver
Assistant VAR: Nick Hopton

Team Selection

De Gea
Dalot (if fit) - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
Casemiro
Bruno - Eriksen
Antony - Martial - Rashford

And the rest…

Rashy streak to continue.

I think we will win this. I don’t think City have been brilliant at all lately, and the result vs Chelsea was down to Chelsea being embarrassingly bad.

Rashford will tear them apart.

I'm so scared, so so scared.

Delighted City play tomorrow and brilliant were in such good form for this. Fantastic test for United, some might say our first big test?

Despite our run I cannot see anything but a City win. Us being at our best all over is needed but if City turn up, and when do ever really not, they will win comfortably 1-3.

I’m worried a thrashing will kill this momentum. I’d take a draw now tbh.

This is the big one. All of our momentum since the restart will be tested here. Draw is a minimum here, I'll be dejected if we lose. City aren't as good as before and we're in good form. Big performance needed from our midfielders here as I have no doubt EtH will try to go toe to toe with them at home.

Bring on City and Arsenal, we're ready!

You're going to be in for a shock. This city team is phenomenal, goals all over the park. If they turn it on, we won't be able to stop them.

It will be interesting to see how ETH set up his midfield with Bruno and Eriksen very likely to get overrun.

I have a horrible feeling we'll try and blow them out of the water gung ho and they'll be 3-0 up in 10 minutes from counter attacks.

Main concern has to Haaland on the counter. The pitch at OT is huge, and we will probably have a decent share of the ball, so breaks can happen.

We are 100% winning this.

Anything could happen. Home advantage could be a factor. With Casemiro in midfield, I can't see them getting the same kind of joy that they had at the Emptyhad.

We’ve been in better form than City for a long time now and there’s enough video of City struggling to break down teams for long periods of games that ETH can analyse. I’m stupidly confident about this.

Not afraid one bit. Previously i used to worry if our bubble would burst if we lose a big game. But now it's different. Even if we lose i'm sure this won't ruin our season and we will be up and running in no time.

fecking Everton kept these at bay and got a score draw. And they dont even have a decent front line. I cant see why we cant win convincingly.

This will bring us back down to Earth a bit. 0-2 and an overall poor performance.

Our season in the next 3 games, 6 out of 9 points, we are in a title race…..I said it.

Buzzing for this one. Pep playing mind games, will play his best team.

I don't see why we should be scared of City. Only 4 points behind them despite giving them a 6 point head start. I wouldn't take a draw if offered at the moment. Really fancy our chances with the form we're in.

Reckon an upset is on the cards and City will win.

Cancelo and Foden look woeful. Good news for AWB.

It’s shocking how one dimensional they’ve become. Even the inverted fullbacks become worthless when it ends up being constantly recycled out wide to KDB to spam crosses into the box

They looked like absolute shite tonight. Suddenly feeling more confident for the weekend.

We have had this knack of allowing out of form teams to beat the shit out of us. Wouldn't surprise me to see a totally different city side this weekend.

Still can’t see how Ten Hag won’t play Bruno/Eriksen/Casemiro in midfield. I think Casemiro on his own can do a job to be fair. We won’t control possession for the whole game so everyone will have to work their socks off and hit them on the break.

Most excited I've been for a derby in what feels like many years. Obviously gonna be there tempted to start pre drinking now.

Just don't want us to get smashed like last time - that was brutal

Key is stopping that nordic sasquatch.

I reckon we'll be well up for this, the lads will surely looking for revenge here.

Cheers CM

Proper mixed bag there which you’d expect. They are at home and on a good run and we aren’t exactly firing on all cyclinders.

Cancelo and Foden look woeful. Good news for AWB

Sadly the above comment can’t be argued with at present

Any result is possible and even more so now. Snatch your hand off right now for the proverbial scruffy 1-0

Impossible to predict this one I think.
What City will show up, will City test out a new training ground formation, will we be caught on the counter, is Casemiro football's 007 in disguise with a license to cripple City players, who will play, where will they play - Ed as CF, Haaland as GK - just impossible to predict.

MU's run of 1000 wins in 700 games, is exactly that, a nonsense. That has been built against weaker sides but they still had to win those games, which they did (and that is something we are failing to do) and that are only 4 points behind us.

It will be interesting to see if Ten Bob plays both Ericksen and Fernandez. If he does I will be optimistic.

Our midfield should control the game, providing a clinical Haaland with lots of chances plus MU have no depth on the bench.

So City should win, says I, with absolutely no conviction.

Pep must pick his best 11 in their correct positions. ie Walker at RB. ....
Eddie
Walker Stones Laporte Ake
Rodri
KDB Bernado
Mahrez Haaland Foden (or Grealish)

I feel if Pep does that we will win this. Tempo has to be high, no slow sideways passing for 5 minutes.

I like Rico but Walker gives us pace v Rashford. I don't rate Akanji as highly as Laporte

Some nerd wrote

" They've definitely lost a degree of control in midfield. Haaland contributes virtually nothing outside of goals to the general play. He's not going to drop into midfield like Foden would if he was playing as a false 9. Maybe they'll adjust but at the moment Abu Dhabi do not control games the way they have in previous seasons,"

ah Haaland who is breaking scoring records every month.

I tend to agree but Akanji has really suprised me at how brilliant he has been since coming (he didn't need a year to settle).
He has to start.
