He's here for his distribution and occasional shot stopping. We're playing the percentages at the back and when we're on form, he's largely doing nothing.

Put it this way, he gets far less shot stopping practice during a game than any other keeper in the league so it's bound to hamper that end of things as well.

I think on penalties Bravo was one of the best I’ve seen. Close to Ricardo, the Portuguese.

He has been a big part of our success, there’s no question of that. But for me, his game hasn’t kicked on. We rarely now see a ball over the top for someone to run onto, certainly it’s much less infrequent than when he first came.

His distribution is the best in world football and he could arguably probably hold his own as an outfield player in a lower league
But, first and foremost a goalie is there to prevent shots from going in, otherwise we may as stick Kyle Walker in there! And this aspect of his game he hasn’t improved. How many times do we see the opposition have 2 shots but score with one of them? As a team we restrict the opposition to by far and away the least number of chances per game and our expected XG against is the lowest in thePL. And that’s probably why he has won the number of Golden Gloves he has. Yet we don’t have the best defensive record. Watching Arsenal v Spuds last week I noticed Ramsdale made 5/6 decent saves and I couldn’t help but wonder whether Ed would’ve saved all of them. Not saying I want Ramsdale but just an observation.

He is a very good all round goalie there’s no doubt and he does give us a different dimension with his passing abilities but I can’t help but wonder in tight games whether a better shot stopper would help us more, especially in cup competitions, notably the CL.

No one player is immune from criticism. And he is a player who if we keep I’m not disappointed and if we sell him then I won’t lose sleep over. Maybe he is getting a bit stale. Maybe a fresh goalie gives us the defensive stability we need. Maybe he is fed up with not having a regular, settled defence in front of him.

And it always goes back to the age old problem of is there anyone out there who is obtainable who can make us better in that position. And if we want to still have our goalie being as comfortable on the ball as the outfield players then I doubt there are many better

We lost to Scouse with a kick forward to Salad ( had Alisson not slipped , probably would have gone past Salad), where Salad gets a run on Ed.

A similar fate at home to Brentford. Oh and the Rags . What shots should Ed have stopped there ? He is a good shot stopper, he even gets his hand to some of the goals that have been scored.

He makes the occasional mistake , like on Thursday, mainly because he is so little involved in the game.

comparison in shot stopping with De Gay are not fair. Most of the shots he saves are right at him. Only in the last game did he pull off a good save..

Look at the spuds goalie getting it in the neck for the last two games , Mahrez had a wicked deflection ,so too Saka's last sunday.

Goalies are pummeled for the tiny mistakes , but half the time our (and other teams ) wingers can't even get a cross past the first defender.

if ederson had played against arsenal, we would have lost that match guaranteed. ortega kept us in it with some class saves, and his distribution was fine, no better no worse than eddie’s lately. deserves a shot at being our #1 imo.

I'd disagree with every bit of this. He made 1 routine first half save (the shot from Tomiyasu which was right at him at a perfect height) and 1 half-decent save. 2nd half, I can't remember Arsenal managing a shot on target. His distribution when he kicked long was shocking all game, he continually managed to find Arse players! For all the criticism he gets, Eddy has made some excellent saves, even in recent games, and I'm sure he would have saved that one too. His long kicking game is second to none.

In fairness, he picked out Haaland (and walker at the end) almost every single time. What didn’t help is Haaland had the touch of lukaku on a number of occasions.

How many times did he lob the ball up in the air to Mahrez? I was going ape-shit watching it. Agree that he made a couple of decent saves but after his shit-show against Saints im not convinced

Don’t think he can be number one, however he is the best number two we had under Pep.
I can’t judge him for the saints game when our field players were comedy gold.

He looks solid and trustworthy and can step up when needed, like yesterday.
Eddie’s distribution is almost impossible to replicate.

Ederson is all round the best goalkeeper I've seen at City in my lifetime, has his faults but fits into the way we play perfectly.

Best in the world, not really - but best in the world for what we need, I think so. When you take Neuer out of the equation as being simply unattainable for us over the last 5 years, who else is in the frame?

I find it really hard to criticise the guy when he usually spends 89 minutes and 30 seconds doing fuck all, and 30 seconds of action in a game and has to rise to it. He more than earns the occasional brainfart - and so long as he mostly has them when we're already out of sight in a game, who cares?

We need a stable CB pairing in front of him more than anything

Agreed.
We need , and have needed for years , a LB ....it defies logic why PeP has ignored this since we all knew Mendy to be a complete waste of space, when he played for us.

He made a huge save today from a Coutinho shot that would have made for a very very nervy last 10.

He is what you call a shot stopper . Little to do tonight and when called , stepped up . Doing what we expect a goalie to do.

Top class this fella. That you are not convinced means nothing , or , you had a slower stream than most of us and missed his vital input
in the second half.

Some wallies even blamed him for the Villa goal ! really, that is down to Bernie and Laporte.
