I have a feeling the ref team backed themselves into a corner there. After the foul the ball fell to a soton player in a really good position on the right of the 6 yard box. If they didn't go through with the penalty saints would have been rightly livid to have had that chance taken away from them. Shit from Oliver really, should have allowed play to continue and see if saints made anything of the chance. If not, that's what var is for, to pull it back for the penalty.
