I haven't caught up with the swales era posts by Colin Bell so might be covered in there, if not some of the slightly older posters can fill you in. All i know is we bought him for £1.2m and sold him for £700k a year later because we couldn't afford his wages anymore.

Why would that make him quit, he went on to manage loads of other clubs after. Allison was always playing away and he'd been brought back prior to Bond.
I saw Bond at a Sportsmans Dinner a few years later and he said he didn't get on with Swales and certain other directors mainly over the financial situation and the way they'd change their minds but that it was his biggest regret leaving us.

Bond was the man who had to drag us up by our bootlaces on a tight budget after Allison had fucked us up big time - he took a title challenging team and basically fucked us over for the next 30 years as it turned out.

Never quite sure whether to castigate Swales for backing him in that silly spending or praise him for having faith. Difference with later big spenders is that the players were shocking and the good ones sold. Steve Daley FFS
