On a positive note; Kovačić is excellent. Fit straight in no messing and dare I say it, a possible upgrade on Gundo in certain aspects.

Yes Kovacic played well although he should have scored straightaway. Phillips? Heaven knows. He will have the excuse of playing in a makeshift midfield but he can’t spurn chance after chance. The players had to rush off to the airport because of the delayed kick off so no press conference. Hopefully no injuries. Hoping for quick news on Gvardiol and on Walker’s decision. As Mase says Kanes situation post Monday may play a part in his decision. It would be so nice to have the Bernardo situation resolved quickly. City may want a winger but if they can’t get the right one they’ll do without.

My takeaway is that Atletico brought on three current full international forwards off the bench two of whom scored. The quality gap between those subs and ours in the same positions was decisive - it's thanks to Ortega it wasn't a much bigger margin.

— 1-Ivo Grbic — 24-Rodrigo Riquelme, —29-Santiago Mourino, —27-Ilias Kostis — 14-Marcos Llorente, — 14-Pablo Barrios, — 8-Saul Niguez, — 21-Yannick Carrasco — 9-Memphis Depay, —10-Angel Correa

— 18-Stefan Ortega (GK) — 7-Joao Cancelo, —25-Manuel Akanji — 4-Kalvin Phillips, — 8-Matteo Kovacic — 82-Rico Lewis, — 87-James McAtee — 52-Oscar Bobb, —21-Sergio Gomez

As soon as so many changes are made in one substitution - as for both sides it becomes a lottery .

we were denied a perfectly good goal in the first half and Kova missed a sitter before they scored .

Shows how bad their replacement strikers were , consistently shooting at the goalie and not for the corners of the net.
"Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs."
