Does anyone else think it was bad business letting him go to the spuds?

Although he was poor when he first joined them he seems to have flourished recently...looked like he had a good game at the weekend

I dont really see letting him go as bad business just the fact that we didnt make a profit on him, after 1 decent season in the prem we should have made atleast a few million on him

Would you rather him or Zab?

After all Zabs was the direct replacement

I honestly prefer Zab, I know he has his off days but on his day he beats Corluka hands down. Charlies lack of pace was often exposed when he played for us, he was too fond of slowly trotting back!

Who of the two would you prefer?

Hmmm...good question...I definitely think Charlie has a better footballing brain...he's not so rash with his tackling...he also seems to be keen to get forward a lot more under Twitchy...perhaps it's the fact he is playing with a couple more Croatians that has boosted his confidence what with Modric doing well at the moment but he is looking good

I was a huge Charlie fan and think he is a better RB than Zabs. I thought Charlie would be better in midfield as a defensive/holding player. He can pass a ball, tackle, has a good footballing brain and has height to help out when needed at the back and front. Mancini seems to like Zabs in midfield as well but I see Zabs as a utility type player able to fill in when needed as to who I prefer hell I would take both as while Charlie shades it for me there ain't much in it.

I thought Charlie was one of Sven's best buys at what £8m? And we got our money back which doesn't happen often!

I wasn't a big charlie fan as i thought he had a turning circle of an oil tanker and ran like he has love-eggs up his jotter but mad zabber hasn't been a massive improvement so it was pointless business really. We still need a world class right back.

Nope, we probably would have had a transfer ban put on us for failing to make payments to other clubs. He was sold so we had some available cash to pay his previous employers. Probably the best bit of business of the club in dire times.

I'm not sure Wardle would have had a spare £7million lying around - I'm just glad he did have £2million though :-)

I was gutted when we sold him. I really liked Corluka and I still do although he plays for Spurs.

As a right back I think he was better than Richards and Zabaleta.

He was probably on par with Zabs but like with Zabs, will never be top notch.

Richards has the ability to be top notch, so out of the three, we have the best two already IMO. He's a bit slow, but a better tackler than Zabs.

Corulka was and remains average.

no pace
won't head it
can't pass
strolls back when caught up field.

Zabs doesn't fall foul of any of these 4 points so for me we came out winners.

From where I used to sit it looked like Corulka was either wearing boots 2 sizes too small or his legs were chained together. Surely the slowest 6 foot slim guy on the planet.
lets wish for good days but not forget the bad days

couldn't wait to fuck off and be with his bum boy at spurs - I'm not convinced Zabba is better than him but I reckon Richards is

What 'bum boy'? Surely he moved to Spurs long before Modric did?

Oh yeah - he's a lot better than Zabaleta too.

Charlie is more consistent but Zabba can poduce a higher standard of performance on his day. The Liverpool and Chelsea games being an example. Charlie may have the edge at RB but Zabba is the better midfielder by quite a distance. In terms of RB Micah is better.

I thought Corluka was fantastic, and was also gutted when he left.

To not lose money on him, and get Mad Zabs for 2 mil IS good business, but I think Charlie's the better footballer.

Will there be a Van Buyten thread now? ;)

No worse than Zabba usually but Zabba at his best is much better than him. Imo neither are good enough for a top PL team at the moment & get caught out too often but I recon Zabba is learning all the time though & will get better & better, wheras Corluka has peaked. Also I think Zabba does a great job in midfield & basically is streets ahead as far as value to the squad goes.
