Gundo is definitely manager material, like Pep he’s a very intelligent man and charismatic, respected and knows the game, well come back to this in a few years.

Perhaps Kompany but I can’t think of any others

As well as Kompany, there's Zaba, Fernandinho and Vieira off the top of my head, and I think even Yaya was mooted at one point.

The problem is, there’s no top level managers about. During the 90s and 2000s there were probably 10-15 top top level managers.

Now we have Pep, Anchalotti and…. well, that’s it. We’re never ever going to replace Pep. Whoever we get in after him is going to have to have a couple of transitional seasons.

But if we mould someone from within the club that’s had nearly ten years under Pep, knows the club inside out, has the backing of the top dogs that if we have a couple of bad results we shouldn’t panic - then I think that’s a lot better than getting in a Ten Hag that’s done well in another league and doesn’t really know what it’s like to win those major trophies.

Not saying it has to be Gundo, but if he’s already working with the youth teams and showing promise with creating tactics that they’re not using I think that will be an easier transition.

Ultimately the club will know what’s best.

Kompany was certainly touted as a potential future manager.
I never got the feeling he could be...

Gundo seems to have all the characteristics but loads of other players had and did fuck all.

I'd be amazed if he wasn't doing his coaching badges

I think there are still 'top level' managers about. The problem is, the gap between the 'top clubs' and the rest is too big for them to fail to garner immediate success. It took Graham Potter 14 years to go from retiring as a player in the English leagues to managing his first PL game, and less than 7 months to go from managing a European contender to nothing. I have no doubt he could have stayed in the mid-third of the table for a decade or two switching between clubs. Whether he'd have transformed Chelsea over the course of 3-5 years will never be known.

It's also worth pointing out that only two managers have won the PL since its inception after having previously managed another club in England: Dalglish and Ranieri. All the rest have been freshly imported from other leagues.

I genuinely couldn’t give you 5 top quality managers in the world, BiB. Probably why Madrid win the CL every other year. I’m talking about proven, winning managers.

Pep, Anchelotti…
Arteta has won basically fuck all and can’t be considered a top manager until he’s won more than 1 FA Cup. ETH looks to be a joker. Alonso unproven.

But the point is all the “good” managers are the ones that have worked under Pep. Alonso, Arteta, ETH etc. Then you’ve got this cunt at Chelsea.

Theres no reason Gundo couldn’t be in that list, the difference for Gundo he’d be working with one of, if not the best ran club in the world. Naturally he’d have more chance of success.

I don't think there's ever been more than half a dozen 'top and proven' managers active in the world at the same point in time, though, which is why it's not really fair to compare 'now' to 'the 90s and 2000s'. Maybe in Baconface's final few years you had him, Pep, Ancelotti and Mourinho, and then Wenger, Van Gaal and a few others (maybe including Deschamps, who's never been fully tested at club level) who could be argued to have been close to that tier. But go back a few years before that and Keegan and Hoddle were considered (by PL followers, at least) to easily be among the top 10-15 managers in the world.

I fully expect to see Walker on a TV show at the sleazier end of the reality TV spectrum within 5 years of retiring.
