John Guidetti - The next academy player to make the grade?

Been asking on here about this lad for a while as I've not had chance to see him & had heard rumours he was a talent & had a good physique, which makes an early breakthrough that much easier. Looks like he's coming along nicely. Just hope we keep hold of him.

The word I got at Platt Lane this morning was that Guidetti shouldnt really be playing at this level anymore and should be a regular at reserve level. That sounds positive! I only saw a few minutes of the 18's as I was watching the 16's play but in that short time Guidetti scored a tap in from a Wabara cross and then later we got a penalty and with 2 players each having scored 2 there as a battle for who would go for the hat trick. The bench decided it would be Joan Olle.

Sad that a lad broke his leg in the 18's game( alledgedly).Mitchell I was told but apparently he is set to go to Glasgow Rangers soon ( also alledgedly)

With reference to young Mitchell .
He has broken his left leg and you are right about him having signed a 2 year pre contract at Rangers.
I hope his injury heals well and that Rangers,honour the agreement in view of his injury

Re the apparent different opinions on training I notice reference to JG training with the big boys and mention of Micah Richards. As far as I am aware and certainly when I have been along he has never trained with the first team or Micah. The big boys for him so far are the reserves.Having said that I do think he has something.

Whether people like it or not, if you've got talent AND the physique to go with it, you have a better chance of making it than a less phsically strong person with the same talent. It was one of the things that set Rooney apart at a young age. Guidetti certainly seems, at 17, like he's going to be very strong physically so if he has talent, an eye for goal & the right attitude, which seems to be the case, he has a real chance. There aren't too many players around that 'tick all those boxes' (as Cook would say).

i was there monday night it was a real good game , the first 10 mins burnley were on top but after that are youngsters did them selves very proud big john guidetti played very well but i think are stand out performer was andrew tutte in midfield he was awsome i belive hes goin to make the first team very soon ive been watching the reserves this season and this youngsters class ,

Tutte is of course an over age player in the 18's

I thought Tutte looked one of our best prospects in the cup winning side; a tackler/grafter who could really play football but on the limited occasions I've seen him since he's looked crap, especially for England. Good to hear of him turning in a good performance again at any level.

Manchester City starlet John Guidetti is set to join Swedish outfit Djurgardens on loan.

The 17-year-old striker was lured to City during Sven Goran Eriksson's regime and is very highly regarded at Eastlands.

But with a host of forwards on their books, Roberto Mancini is now set to allow Guidetti to gain first-team experience in his homeland.

Djurgardens have now struck a deal with City and he is expected to spend the rest of the season in Sweden.

"Manchester City are positive to do a loan until the end of May," Djurgardens sports director Stefan Alven told Expressen.

"John has expressed a desire to join Djurgardens and we are interested in signing him."

Surely the football is better in the Premier Reserve League than this league he´s in? Anyone know?

And better to be at the club training with our squads etc.

Maybe he needed to be back in Sweden for a month or two for personal reasons?

I think he mainly wanted first team football, but he probably also sees it as an opportunity to show himself in Sweden, so that he won't be forgotten by the national coach, etc.

I don't really know how good the Premier reserve League is, but I would say that the Swedish league is slightly worse than the Championship. I reckon that the best Swedish teams would finish around mid-table if they were playing there. Purely a guesstimate, though.

I thought it made a lot of sense to be honest.

A couple of months before the end of the season, Mancini and Co had obv seen enough to earmark him as one with big potential but in all reality he was not likely to get any first team involvement this season.

Coupled with this you have the fact that Nimely is (nominally) ahead of him (due to seniority) in the youth pecking order and the fact also that David Ball is now back from injury and likely to be used heavily in reserves action to get him back fit properly (as well as Santa Cruz also being used there).

I think it was a good move to get him playing competetive football for a couple of months before coming back and being a proper chance with the first team squad in pre-season where both Tevez and Santa Cruz will be on WC duty so there are at least two first team proper striker positions vacant for that period (and we all know really that Nimely, Ball, Mak and Guidetti will likely be given gametime).

Sure the level might not be brilliant but I'm sure that at that level he WILL get time on the pitch (see file marked Vladimir Weiss for the benefit of this traded off against the lesser standard of football).
