Pleased for the big man. He used to live just around the corner from my gran in sale. Great keeper who was unfortunate to play at same time as Clemece and Shilton else he would have more england caps

Always played as big Joe when in goal at the park.
Top goalie. Top bloke.
Congrats big guy
I wish there was a way to know you are in the good old days....before you've actually left them...

I'll never forget when he flattened Souness (arrogant arse had just signed from Boro) in the North Stand goal area. Brilliant, he had warned Souness twice beforehand about going in so high with his feet.

Early in his career he was a bit calamity prone. Remember that volley goal from half way by West Ham (Frank Lampard?) From Joe's goal kick. Maine Road

But he grew into it, as many keepers do and became brilliant

It was Billy Bonds, but if there was a clanger to be dropped he dropped it apparently.

So happy he's been recognised. Surprised the dippers haven't claimed him as a former son!

He still does match days meeting and greeting in the Legends Lounge (or did), so he obvs knows where his loyality lies.

I was in there when we won the league at home against the Hammers 2013/14.......

When Joe came over to our table, I just froze and acted like a kid, until my cousin explained I was always 'big joe' when played as kids.... a charming man indeed.

Took some clients over a few years ago, and so too, met him in the lounge, along with Tony (Hugh) Book and Colin Bell , Tommy Booth also. Nice , easy going fella. Even Colin Bell was very approachable, said all of his time was spent looking after his grand children ,which he doted on . It's great when you get to meet your heroes , isn't it ?
