You’ve bought in to the rag propaganda. Shame

Can’t remember once season where Scholes carried United to the title…

When Scholes was 24 - same age as Phil, he scored 8 goals and had 5 assists that season. Phil has 7 and 2 so far this season… wonder if the rags wanted Scholes gone in ‘98…

Fantastic stat.
Scholes help carry Utd to more titles than Foden ever will - even if he repeats his form of last season. Great players do it year in year out. No one ever questioned Scholes at Utd over a 20 year career. Foden's international career has taken a big step back, because he played badly, albeit out of position , Scholes was competing against two other great players in Lampard and Gerrard, all three of them i would say were better than Foden at the moment. It's a similar argument as Haaland vs Aguero . Haaland's stats are phenomenal, but they are faltering after an exceptional start and he is no Aguero - yet.

This thread wouldn't have been put up if there wasn't an issue with Foden. He's a City lad through and through
, a real local hero , so if anyone should be pulling up stumps for City it should be him, He has the skill to take games by the scruff of the neck and influence them, but he isn't doing it. I've seen enough football to recognise a decent player and it doesn't matter to me who he plays for

Odd you mention Scholes and England, he was a huge flop for the national team. Worse than Fodens been even.

Scholes was one of the most over rated and bang average players I've ever seen. Pure propaganda

"Scholes helped carry united to more titles than Foden ever will"
Scholes 11 PL
Foden 6

Scholes 4 FA Cup
Foden 2

Scholes 2 League Cup
Foden 4

Scholes 2 CL
Foden 1

Not a million miles behind our Phil and he's 24. Years to catch up.

I'd be very happy if I see City win 5 more titles before Foden retires whether he's with us or not.

To say Scholes was bang average is just a bit silly isn't it?

So lets say Foden plays 10 more years max, i'd be amazed if we win 5 more PL titles, 2 FA Cups and a CL in that time. Plenty of time left but a big ask. Phil will have been bled dry by his family well before he's 30

Name one game where Scholes turned it on and took over the game….

Phil did it for 30 games last season.

The fact we’re on a city forum and we’ve got City “fans” pretending Phil couldn’t lace the boots of Paul Scholes is pathetic. Rag Cafe it is for you lot.

If you looks at his stats he was bang average in a class team. He didn’t assist, he didn’t score - so as an attacking midfielder what did he do?

       Behave . Bang average ? Have a read back over his England career, he did well in some big games against decent opposition but suffered under the can't play Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes together bollocks. Foden's career has crashed on the runway, firmly put in the shade by Bellingham, of all players. Anyone coming second to that twat can't be doing well. Euros were a fantastic opportunity for him coming after a great season, he should have been strutting his stuff in that tournament. I accept the manager messed him about but he was a flop. Painful to watch

David Silva had similar stats to Scholes. Give or take.

Was he bang average in a class team?

No he wasn’t. He was arguably our best player and certainly in our top 5 ever. For some players, goals and assists aren’t the barometer of their success and usefulness to a side

No he didnt. Silva had 95 assists in nearly 200 less games  so he had 34 more assists than Scholes in just short of 200 less games… I’d say his stats were miles better, wouldn’t you?

Honestly, to say Scholes is bang average is baffling. Might not be the world class players he was portrayed as but he was still very good. IMHO

Scholes was a United player so we cannot compare Foden to him unfavourably.

It's hardly the most objective place to start is it?

I honestly don't think I've ever heard or seen Scholes described as bang average by anybody other than a City fan.

Probably because the average football fan is thick and rather than look at stats they’d listen to John down the pub?

He scored less and he also played nearly 200 games less. Come on Notts, bringing up Silva without looking at his stats first was silly mate.

I’ve also just shown that Foden’s stats this season are bang on for where Scholes was at when he was 24 - would United have been willing to sell Scholes at 24?

No one has answer yet, but we have tons of City fans saying they’d sell Foden. Madness

No real proper city fan would want him sold.

A load of kids from China, The US or India bladdering shit online, well I suppose that is another matter.

I'm not talking about the average football fan. I don't have conversations about the qualities of Paul Scholes with people so I don't know what the average football fan thinks. I take it as a given that people who have played the game to a high level, or managed at the highest level, or written about football all their working lives know what they are talking about. They must surely fall in the higher levels of football intelligence if that is the yardstick for having a valid opinion. I've never heard or seen any of them describe Paul Scholes as bang average.
