The Carlton v Portsmouth match was abandoned after a medical emergency in the crowd. The spectator has apparently subsequently died.

Very sad news, but should a match be abandoned for this? What if it was the Cup final or a league defining match?

Depends what the emergency was, and how it used resources. For example, if they died as a result of the stadium being unsafe (scaffolding fell from a gantry, or similar), I'd expect the game to be abandoned. Also, if they died and others needed medical treatment for shock, etc., then it might leave the ground with insufficient medical resources (ambulances, staff, etc.) for the game to legally be allowed to continue.

I know it might sound callous, but if some 72-year-old has keeled over in their seat and died of natural causes, then I'd expect the game to carry on.

I think he was well know for the Charlton fans? Headphones Norm.
So maybe it was a mutual decision to stop the game this time.

So according to Gobber, if the dippers don't win today at Leeds then Slot presumably will be sacked as his position will be "untenable" as he won't have got 7 points from the three gimme games

Agreed.

People must die at concerts and the like relatively frequently. Maybe they are stopped as well? I don't know.

It seems to me to be a dangerous precedent though. Say we are winning at home to Arsenal on a probable title decider, what's to stop an Arsenal faking a heart attack to get the game abandoned?

Extreme? Yes
But feasible? Yes
