New manager, who do we want?

Postby nottsblue » Thu May 28, 2026 12:17 pm

Deserves it’s own thread I think

Pep has now managed his last game and is probably now just clearing out his office

Who would posters want to replace him? It is being widely reported that Maresca will be the next manager and I haven’t heard much else to the contrary. Has this been a done deal for a while now? Are we even looking at alternatives?

Maresca, for me, would be rather underwhelming. However are there that many other realistic candidates out there? Chelsea were quick to appoint Alonso, possibly fearing the dippers would sack Slot and move for him. Kompany and Enrique probably wouldn’t leave Bayern or PSG respectively just yet. Is Maresca therefore almost a stopgap until one of these becomes available? Not unlike Pellegrini in some respects.

Given how long Pep was here and how ingrained his philosophy and style are throughout the whole age spectrum at the club, are we likely to want to break that? Historically, clubs do suffer when long serving successful managers leave. It really is a tough transitional period for all concerned, players and remaining back room staff and fans alike. Focusing on Maresca, who has managed at youth level with good success and being an assistant during the Treble season, is maybe as close to consistency and continuity as we could get and hope for?

Are the 115 charges looming over the club? Whilst they are unresolved it surely is restricting our choices?

But make no mistake, this next appointment is crucial. The squad we currently have is a very good one with a strong mix of experience and promise. It isn’t like when Wenger and Ferguson left imbalanced and poor squads. We have the opportunity to build on the transition since the Treble and Four in a row campaigns. And though I personally don’t believe we will dominate the domestic game like we have for the last decade, we are in a great position to be extremely competitive and successful. The next manager could easily make or break this opportunity

And perhaps these are a few of the reasons why the club seem to be going down the Maresca route

It would be a massive shock if Maresca wasnt confirmed now. Possibly the worst kept seceret in football history. Its pointless even thinking about anyone else. I am willing to give the man a chance. He knows the club, he knows a few of the players and I think he did a decent job at Chelsea who are a mess of a club.
I wouldnt be roaring and screaming if he didnt start well, its a world cup summer after all, and it always has an affect on preseason / season start.

New manager

Maresca may or may not be quite the right man but his a better choice than Kompany, Enrique on a personal level dont quite like, what about Flick or Iraola, does anyone have a foggie about those charges. The length of time its taking is concerning. Maybe Pep will be back after he recharges his batteries. I wouldn't be surprised if he hopefully does.

Like him as a pundit on TS, better than all the other presenters & pundits combined.

They have some right proper cunts on their.

Abanglahor being the biggest (quite literally), so bitter and worse accent in the country after scouse cunts.

Bent od drive is OK and could much better if he had someone decent alongside him other than self loving ego Goldstein.

I think Pearce is terrible on there and is so bitter towards us. Backed Arsenal or Liverpool in thr treble year, tipped Newcastle the year after. Anyone but us, slaughters Foden on England commentary. Can't stand him

Have you seen the video, I'm sure it's from the CL final, after we scored Pearce is on Comms and basically just sits in silence absolutely devastated that we've scored.

Pep is a hard act to follow. Trying to think rationally and not because of some sudden success or not . Probably the only one of two out there at the moment would be Enrique.

I can only think of the poison chalice Moyes inherited and how badly Maresca is going to cop it when we have a slump.

Never say never. 2 chumps leagues when is enough enough. He's going to want at least one more but then what?
He's got to be on our radar as he will be with all the top clubs. Not this time, but definitely next time his contract is up.
