What does our squad require?

Postby nottsblue » Wed May 27, 2026 3:37 pm

So the season is over. We know Silva and Stones are going. Who else should go or you would let go if the right money came in?

And who should we be looking at signing? There’s now no ambiguity about will Pep stay or go which will help in the recruitment.

To that end I suspect we will announce the new manager very soon as players will surely want to know who they are playing for?

Rodri, with only a year left on his contract can go if we get a suitable offer. Anderson, from Forest, looks to be near completion, though Forest are rumoured to want to wait until after the World Cup, presumably in case he has a blinder.

Personally, I’d let Foden go if we got a decent offer for him. However, we in all likelihood won’t so if he stays I equally wouldn’t be disappointed

Savinho is surely going to be sold? Hopefully to Spurs, the only silver lining to them staying up.

Wouldn’t shed any tears if Marmoush moved on either. Though his salary may be a stumbling block.

Though I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t move anyone one as the incoming manager might have different ideas and options than Pep had, and he wants to see what they can do for his (Maresca?) system

A couple of still hungry established players that might not be first names on the team sheet but would add a bit of fire to the squad and wouldn't break the bank. The likes of joelinton and davitkas from como. Give nico g a run of games Reinjders and marmoush were very disappointing last season. New manager has a decent squad to work with but we lack a bit of aggression.

Heard earlier that Gonzalez is making noises about leaving due to lack of game time, hopefully RM make a sensible offer for Rodri, if so Gonzalez stays and is first choice unless Elliott comes. That said i haven't paid attention to Elliott to form an opinion.

I think we've all been mainly happy with Nico when he's played.

Kovacic should only make cameo roles from we've seen on his recent return.

We need Elliot Anderson in the middle.

Get rid of Savio and get decent wingers in. Semenyo and Doku have done alright with goals, need wingers that can assist as well.

With Trafford off we need a sturdy second keeper.

We need Foden to rest this summer and come back firing. It would be like a new signing.

We need Dias to stay on the bench and Khus and Guèhi to start with Josko LB.

Maresca was even more insistent on the keeper playing out then Pep when he was at Chelsea. Maybe Trafford becomes first choice?

I wouldn't be mad at that. I really like Trafford, we're blessed to have two class keepers. If Donna is going to be first choice, I'd do my best to convince Trafford to go on loan for two years. Doubt he'd agree to it though.

Donna is absolutely is not a Pep style keeper, but when that calibre becomes available on the cheap, you sign him. I can see Maresca thinking the same.

Sending Jimmy out on loan sends the wrong message to both keepers as much as it would seem like a good idea. (I had the same thought, but thinking it through is probably not the best)

If Grealish comes back, he needs to be playing in the middle, enough of this wing play from a guy who could never ever beat a fullback.

But I think he would be an upgrade from the likes of Kovacic. Good thing about Jackie is he is consistent, which we lack at times.

Good shout about the middle. And the times we need to control the game and not give the ball away - he's the man for the job.

What do we require? Partially depends upon who is going, all sorts of (mostly silly) rumors of players wanting to leave just because Pep is gone, looks like some rival fans are getting a little giddy.

For me we need a right back to help Nunes, someone to replace Silva, and another winger who can actually contribute in a meaningful way. Thats three for me at an absolute minimum and then if some others do go then we will need more.

Hotel Gotham likes this. Not sure Jack is the answer to teams running through us though.

Savinho , Ake , kovacic, Dias to go

NUNES and marmoush potential exits

Grealish back in the fold, dont glue him to the touch line

Anderson, Gibbs White, livramento, Lewis Hall all potential targets. Need players with good engines that fight for the cause. We have too many that are soft.

Also hope he has the sense to get Echeverri back. He's not done well on loan but i believe he could be a great

Nunes was one of the best right backs in the country last season. And with a great engine, fights for the cause and certainly anything but soft.
Hardly ever injured as well.
Echeverri has done nothing for 2 years- can't be every managers fault.

Nunes? Get your fucking coat.

Also if Kova is okay with a part time role, I am happy with that.

We have 6 centrehalves at the moment and we are losing Stones already. I don't think we can survive on 3 and I think Alleyne(not gonna count him) will go back out on loan next season. I have high hopes for Pusey-Simpson, but he can't be our 4th centrehalf yet.

I am concerned when someone signs, starts playing for City and then gets shipped out on loan. Like our plans were them to be part of the 1st team squad and Pep saw something and decided against it. I thought he did okay but obviously there are things we don't see that gave him pause.
