The Premier League won, they didn't become the new City.

I do feel sorry for them. Unless they can build onto the stadium or move to a bigger one, they cannot increase marchday revenue. As PP says, the PL have won this battle.

But this settles it, the establishment are safe, City will not be replicated.

The clubs that most need sustained Champions League qualification to increase their revenues are the clubs least financially equipped to absorb a season without it, so with competition at the top higher than it's ever been due to City breaking in 10+ years ago, and Chelsea before that, Newcastle were always doomed to sitting outside that elite group - and it is near impossible now for the club to break in.

Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester United can miss Europe and still generate €700–800 million because of decades of accumulated commercial strength. Manchester United's revenue, for example, remains enormous despite periods outside the Champions League.

Newcastle or Villa cannot.

A single missed Champions League season reduces broadcast and matchday income so significantly across the 3 year calculation for a club like Newcastle or Villa, it becomes near impossible to retain players and invest for the following year.

What the cartel set out to achieve, has largely been achieved now - fair play to Newcastle, PIF and especially Howe for giving it a go, but they are destined to be a selling club on the periphery - the drawbridge has been pulled up exactly as we all predicted it would be in 2009 when the moves were set in motion to try and stop City's investment.
