I was also getting on him about this yesterday but to be fair Haaland did track back deep into midfield a few times to win it back in the 2nd half. And after watching some extended highlights today I think there was a deliberate strategy to not pressure their CBs on the ball unless you think you can win it. Semenyo and Ndiaye also were standing and watching Maguire & Martinez when they had the ball. It worked out really well because their entire back line is horrendous on the ball.
Although he seems to give the impression of not moving much, and yesterday's game looked like many others, Erling covered more ground than all but 2 City players (Anderson & Dias), and of the 26 players who featured in the game he was 7th on distance covered. He obviously does more than we give him credit for...
