The agent of Catania striker Jorge Martinez claims to have held talks with Manchester City over a proposed move to the Premier League.
The Uruguay international has scored 22 goals in 81 games for the Serie A outfit, prompting reported interest from other clubs in Italy's top flight.
However, the 26-year-old's agent Daniel Delgado insists ambitious Premier League side City are in pole position to secure his signature having already opened negotiations.
"Many Italian teams have showed an interest in Jorge but the only negotiation that is still alive is with Manchester City," said Delgado.
"Jorge is going through a very good moment, he is playing well and being very useful to his team.
"His performances have made other teams interested but the only team that we keep on having conversations with is Manchester City."
Martinez featured as an 83rd-minute substitute in England's 2-1 friendly win over Uruguay in March 2006 and has nine goals in 20 games in Italy's top flight this term.

Personally think we should be looking for bigger maybe is a fall back in case we don't hit champions league? But nearly 1 in 4 in serie A isn't that good and he would probably get even less in the prem. Not like he is a kid either being 26..
