I'm unsure about his future too. I'm sure his timing is bollocks though.

so he should be as, on this season's form, he wouldn't be commanding a regular starting spot in most PL teams

what is he thinking? retirement? moving on? or pulling his socks up and rediscovering form?

Last season he was easily good enough to have a place in the squad for next season

This season he simply was not

So he either has to up his game or it shall be best for him and for the club for him to seek pastures new.

I love Stevie as a mad little fella and as a footballer but this year was a massive massive disappointment and we cannot carry passengers now, we don't need to and to do so does NO-ONE any favours

I'm with Bingo. And i can categorically say that the 'top four' will not be snapping him up. Sunderland most likely.

Fuck him, we can't wait around anymore we don't have the time, we gave him a HUGE 5 year deal last summer and what has he repaid it with? average performances.

If he can't make the step up he should be moved out, we have to be ruthless now.

He could be a quality player but I don't think he has the mental strength. I really like him and it would be sad if he left, but I don't think he is consistent enough for where we want to go. We have to decide do we want sentiment or success? We can't have both.

You can bet your ass on it.

We NEED to give him another summer to get back to full fitness. In full flow he is really top class.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

hmm, not sure about many of the comments in this thread. We all KNOW what Ireland is capable of when in form. Yep he hasn't been in form much this season, but then again he hasnt started much this season. He, like Onouha seems to come good after starting 5 or 6 games on the run after being out for a while. I certainly don't think he should be sold, we would live to regret it. What I think is that next season we should pretty much operate 2 teams, 1 for the league and one for the Europa League, giving the players that shine in the Europe League a chance in the Prem. We need to utilise the Europe League as a place to ensure a greater number of our squad get 1st team action regularly (inlcuding Ireland). I honestly think that Ireland is outstanding on his day, he doesnt have an attitude like Robinho, has said if he leaves it wont be through his own wanting, therefore we need to keep.

We just need Clark Kent to change back into Superman! ;-)

i think given time he will be the sort of player a team can be built around. the problem with this fucking club is that we never allow time for anything.

you dont turn into a terrible player over night. i dont think mancini has found a way to properly utilize him yet. i really do worry about us selling him, i think it would be a big mistake.

Funny one Ireland

Is he pure class?

or

Did he just have one amazing season?

Suppose time will tell...whether that is at City though...

I dont quite agree mate. we need a strong enough squad, of quality players, to win both Europa and have a good go at the Prem. the EL shouldnt be a testing ground for failed/young/out of form/squad/binned players. If so we will lose.

And I'm sorry but Ireland is not now of the required quality. I believe he excelled by being able to be the outstanding player, something which he can never be again because of the improved quality around him.

In an ideal world I would love to be able to take:

Stevie
Michael Johnson
Micah
Nedum
Hart
Weiss

and send them all out on at least a 12-18 month loan somewhere decent (maybe somewhere like Italy for the defenders) to find form, develop a more complete game or one with greater discipline

I'd love them to go to a decent club where they would get gametime every week BUT only on the proviso that the club was doing it in order to bring them back to City as better players who would be here long-term

Unfortunately neither the club nor the players likely have the patience, trust, foresight to do this....shame tho

Exactly the point so far it seems one season as he really didn't do anything before that season did he? I would love to see him rediscover his form but not at the expense of the club not anymore.

My thoughts exactly. Keeping him purely incase he rediscovers his 08/09 season form elsewhere sounds stupid. We either believe in his ability to make a contribution to the Team or we don't.

There's ample chance he could go to Villa or Everton and do nothing there.
