Maybe he isn't good enough (yet?)? Looked quite slow to me when he got his chance.

Compared to Vieira he is roadrunner

Point taken.

Completely missing the point here, you cannot compare ibrahim to Paddy V and say Ibrahim is more athletic,, you have to take account of his experience, composure, charisma, positioning and what he gets from others around him, Ibrahim is not near ready and will only be fring again next year at most

Not missing the point at all and I accept that mancini didn't think he was ready. The point about pace was deliberately set up for me by Anti. But to quote all you have about Vieira just made me laugh so thank you. Charisma... very funny. He was crap on the field almost all the time and we all know it.

I like the idea that Weiss will be given a proper chance , I think Boyata will be in the squad but only used in emergencies but I don't think we will see Nimley. Good player though he is I feel he won't quite make it at prem level. The 2 current academy players I would hope to get a look in pre season and have high hopes for are Benali and Guidetti.

Check the "Townley" thread in off topic. Can't picture you now without seeing your hands waving and you ranting and raving like Larry David!

Anyways, Benali? That's Francis Benali's son we signed to our Academy some years back?? Is he good then. Honestly, don't even know what position he plays. Regarding Guidetti, I try and watch Brommapojkarna on telly they are on this season (and I'm actually planning on going Sweden this summer hopefully getting to see him live).

Hmmm off to off topic again.

Benali is a play maker who also scores goals. He has reminded me of Ali Benarbia when I have seen him ( whcih isn't that often) . Good touch and awareness.

Reckon?

Him coming out and crying how he hasn't been good enough makes me think he has been told he's offski.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Hopefully. 6 month loan with a view for one more year. I can't see Mourinho wanting him back. Vieira as a Coach might be interesting, though.

Defensive Midfield was one of the last positions we needed to strengthen. Both Kompany and Zabaleta could fill in when De Jong wasn't available.

In think Vieira has shown glimpses of his talent but little more. He's had some good games and some absolute stinkers.

He may be handy to keep around for next season but in reality im hoping the club sign 2 top class midfield players this summer and render him expendable.

He's not worth the wages either.

I agree..His contribution to the team falls short if we want to get to the top...Lets sign some attacking MF quality..We have dearly missed an Ireland type player

He turned out to be a waste of space and a bad signing but I can understand why Mancini wanted to bring him in,In serie A ,he may still have looked a decent player and his experience and leadership was potentially worth the risk But back in the superior Prem he was found out to be too far past his prime.Ive seen Matthew Le tissier look more interested and energetic on a football than Vieira did with us. last years player of the season Stephen Ireland was basically discarded for that old man, what I cant understand was how Mancini stuck with Veira even after it was obvious they guy was past it.

Original Dub wrote:Silly signing. When we needed a hungry, attack minded midfielder, he was chosen to take us to the champions league.

I don't blame him alone.... in fact I don't really blame him full stop, but depending on him being our BIG signing and LEADER when we were in with a shout of champions league was a BIG mistake.

He's all but gone (retired more likely), and some will say he didn't cost us much. But to a club that has endless funds, our biggest cost will never be money - in this case it was Champions League IMO.

I couldn't understand his signing at the time and looking back I do believe that the richest club in the world could have gotten at least twice the player somewhere else.

couldn't agree more mate think at times he's been ok but absolutely nowhere near the level required to get us where we needed to be this season. i didn't understand this signing, considering we had NDJ, Barry and sometimes Zabaleta (who does a more than competent job) in Vieira's position. Get Gourcuff in!

Dub,
Consider that you are driving in the country, your fan belt snaps and you ain't got one in the boot. You look for something you think and hope will do a job and keep you running til you can sort the problem properly. You string a pair of Mrs O' Dub's tights round and it works. maybe not very well, or as well as you had hoped. It had worked in the past so it was worth trying. As soon as the right belt is available, you fit it and the problem is solved. Maybe you also shove the tights in the boot as a safeguard.

Paddy V was a reasonable punt mate. We needed stability and an old head at the back. It worked at times and at others it didn't work as well. The great thing is that now summer is here, we can get the proper part if we need it. Paddy may be left lying around for a short time in case we need him.

Consider I'm driving through a whole load of garages and I'm a millionaire and my fan belt snaps.

And I use Aine's tights.

Sure it worked in little pieces, but the problem is I never made it to the best holiday destination in the world...
Because I used tights instead buying quality.

Consider you are a poster on a forum and can not only appreciate someone else's hypothetical, but accept that they may have a point and while you disagree with it, your arrogant dumbfuck arse is not the messiah of football, and you could at least half the time, be wrong.

But Dub, I didn't say that we bought Vieira when there were better options available. We didn't pass those garages.
I am sure that had a better option been available to do the job we wanted, they would have been bought. I think they will this time around.
Mancini got in what he could, when he could, in order to get us through
Now we have the chance to get the right part in...if he is available.

I've only seen this quote at one place - but it is allegedly a quote from roberto - so I guess we have our answer - to be honest, I am quite pleased, as long he's not the focal point of our midfield, he's a decent grunt who can do a job on those injury plagued days

"I still need to speak with him but I think we will keep Patrick," said manager Roberto Mancini. "He is an important player."
