Joe Corrigan On Sky Sports

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Joe Corrigan On Sky Sports

Postby The Original Special One » Thu May 06, 2010 2:32 pm

I missed the opening few minutes and I hadn't recognised him but I guessed he must have been a former City player.
But I knew it couldn't be Tony Book, who was the oldest player of the great City team,...nor Mike Doyle, because I'd seen a recent video of him.
If anything the person who he most resembled was ex-England Rugby coach, Brian Ashton

I'd never have guessed him in a month of Sundays.!!!
(and, if memory serves me right, he could only have been about 17 when we won the title)

But, aside from that, and that he looked much shorter than Hoddle (!!!) I couldn't believe the comments he was coming out with.
Particularly about Ledley King's disallowed goal!
He seemed to be tripping over Hoddle in his desperation to outdo him in explaining why the goal 'should' have been allowed.

But what the two of them appeared to overlook, that, whether King was using Barry to gain leverage or not, the fact is that he pushed Barry in the back to prevent him contesting him in the air!

Good spot by the referee!

Joe is a fair-minded, even sided bloke who will tell it how he see's it, regardless of colours.

Joe is one of my all-time City heroes who always seemed to have time for everyone, but especially Hel's Bells. Got to have a reet good chat with him this season and I can tell you, he is still a great guy.

PS. he may have looked smaller than Hoddle on camera, but not in real life!

Joe wasn't used to the pundit thing. Seems to have a lot of weight though, last time I heard of him he was as wide as he was tall!

He looked a bit nervous to be honest - plus he played in a different era so might not be fully clued up on what is or isn't a faul these days.

He's a goalie coach mate, still in the game. Was at Liverpool until relatively recently. Now I think he does a day each at a few lower league clubs.

He was a coach but has now hung up his boots after a few years with West Brom (Rafa sacked him). As far as I'm aware, he's now working with Mike Summerbee as part of the Legends team.

I remember going to Maine Road as a kid when Joe was Goalie. I used to love watching him when we got a penalty - he would always take up the same position of squatting with his back to the action as he couldn't bear to watch.

Also remember him giving Big Helen a smacker on the lips before each game!

He must have shed about 3/4 of that weight then: he looked positively slight by comparison with Hoddle

England goal keeper, top stopper in his time, played profesional football, won stuff, coach, so why would he not know what he is talking about ? to talk about him being off the pace is rediculous ! lets hope the king (Colin Bell) is not on sky tv some of you lot would crucify him.
