I agree signing with MLS was one of the dumbest things he could have done, but I don't think MLS can be held 100% responsible for his failure, some of it has to fall on Freddy's shoulders. There have been numerous reports of poor training habits and to quote his manager in Portugal, "a party every night attitude".

Yeah you are foolish. ;)

I just do not see any heart or drive in him. He was told how great he was growing up, and he beilieved it would all fall to him (and that can be understood). Unless someone lights a fire under him, I don't think he will ever be an impact player.

What I think is really funny, is how the response from the brits is always "have a sense of humour" , "we're only having a laugh", etc ... But when someone does the same to them all the handbags come out and no one can take it. You've all got rather large chips on your shoulder, which have got to be stale by now ... been sitting there since 1783.

Oh settle the fuck down. I didn't reply to this....

mate ... you need to get a sense of humor about your country

I think my country does a good enough job on it's own making a joke of itself.

Freddy Adu is .... 21 now? 22? I think he's the first american player who has ever crumpled under the weight of expectation ... because no one has ever expected anything of an american. I mean, this kid was 14 and he was being dragged around the states and put into commercials with Pele talking about how he is going to be the one to lead the US out of the dark ages and win the world cup 2010. maybe even 2006! He was supposed to be that fucking good.

debuting in the MLS at 14 was absolutely the worst thing he could have done ... If I were in a position to advise young american players, I would tell each and everyone of them to graduate highschool and immediately go abroad. You don't want to get caught up in the american college/pro soccer scene. It will destroy any chances you ever had of fulfilling your potential. my main example: Freddy Adu.

I never understood why everyone is so outraged at Adu's failure to make it big. You have about as much chance of picking a 14 year-old future superstar as you do picking a blockbuster stock 10 years prior to a boom. Its meaningless to blame the hype of the media or suggest that Adu "crumpled under expectations" as if he indeed possessed the talent but threw it away. He probably never had enough to begin with. No one can predict the future and no one has worked out scouting to a science. Predicting whether any player from an early age will be a great is a difficult task, predicting one of the greatest is even harder. The world is littered with thousands of "the next" Pele, Maradona, etc.

Quite a few years ago now I heard of this young player who was already on his way to be the best in the world, he was going to make Ronaldo(real one) look like a second rate pub player. His name was Landon Donovan. It's the fishbowl syndrome unfortunately and we as City fans should know this better than most.

Its bloody shocking really. I think the media circus cursed him, but i do remember him being courted by the scum...if he was ever going to break out it would of been then.
