Manchester City to pursue Hamsik, Napoli offer new deal
According to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will continue his pursuit of Marek Hamsik , with Napoli hoping he will sign a new contract before the World Cup.
Despite missing out on Champions League qualification, Mancini still believes that he can attract big names to Eastlands and signing Hamsik, who has been linked to Chelsea for some time would be a statement of Manchester City 's intent.
22 year-old midfielder Hamsik has been a consistent star performer in Serie A over the past several years and has scored 12 goals in 36 games for Napoli this season. The Slovakian is expected to star at this summer's World Cup.
Hamsik is yet to sign a new deal with Napoli, but Corriere dello Sport reports that his agent is negotiating an extension which will take his contract up to 2015. It will include a release clause of 40 million Euros and an agreement over the player’s image rights.
However, Corriere dello Sport reports that Mancini still believes Manchester City can offer Hamsik a financial package hard to turn down. Mancini has also reportedly consulted Hamsik’s Slovakia team-mate Vladimir Weiss, a Manchester City player himself. Apparently, City would have to offer Napoli at least 30 million Euros to have any chance of capturing Hamsik.

Ermm.....with what money exactly?

mate, they've got cash. Don't be fooled by all the blue-tinted shit we're prone to here...these guys aren't fucking incompetents or jokers. They are running one of the largest sporting enterprises in the world. I know it's fun to slag them off, but we need to climb a peg or two, not hope they fall down. Know what i mean?

The best feeling i think will be beating some of their best sides in years for us to win things. We have to go through them if we want to be who we say we want to be. That's part of the fun. This years derbies and Cup matches were a lot of fun -- though Mancini found a way to make them less fun to watch than his predecessor, but that will get sorted.

Sorry for the rant.

They can borrow and put The Swamp up as guarentee. Although there was a rumour from a good source that Taggart was ready to buy Ibrahimovic and the Glazers wouldn't pay for him.

errr - they have access (limited) to funds - they will not be paying 45m for DV - that is beyond their arrangements - just a fact that is not my fact - but theirs - all you have to do is read all the bond issue material etc - yes 'technically' they could get access to over £100m - but that would just increase the debt - it would be added straight onto it

I agree we need to go up a few pegs - but they are coming down as well unless all these new regulations that limit spending (not debt) etc come to their rescue

They are "apparently" in this mega debt yet get linked with signings like Villa, I just find is strange.

The debt doesnt come into it. Villa will be 30 in December, and Ferguson is on record that the club will not fund huge money signings for players who have their best years behiind them - they reckon Berbatov was an exception, and look how that turned out.

Villa isnt going to United, shit journalism

David Villa to the rags....NOT A CAT IN HELLS CHANCE.

It's just that age old strategy designed to gain publicity and grab headlines. The rags have done this for years, leaked stuff about this player or that one, that they had no intention of pursuing. Batistuta springs to mind, amongst many others...and it never happened.
The World Cup, Chelsea, and City to some extent are getting the coverage...Taggart is just attention seeking.
