We had a thread on here discussing the futures of Vieira & Sylvinho but I didn't notice any mention of the new Prem Lg quota system which starts next season. Well I know I'd forgotton about it anyway!
For those who'd also forgotten to take it into account it basically says:
Each team is allowed a squad of up to 25 players.
Out of that 25, no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 & not 'home grown'.
'Home grown' is defined as: a player that has been trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody within the English and Welsh professional system.
An unlimited number of players under the age of 21 can be added to the squad.
This also means of course that players like Weiss & any from abroad that we sign who are 18 yrs old, still count as part of the english quota when they reach 21.
Thanks to excellent planning by the previous manager, signing English/Welsh qualified players before their value soars, we're in a great position with the balance of our squad but it does bring into question the futures of players who A) don't fit the English/Welsh qualification criteria & B) will be taking up a position in the squad that could be used by a better player, English qualified or not.
It also brings about the question of whether some players would be happy just to play in the cups.
Perhaps you lot have been considering this all along & it's just me that's forgotton about it but I haven't seen much mention of it.
It makes a big difference to the potential incoming & outgoing transfers imo.
Thoughts?
