Ireland: "I want out"

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

While Steven Ireland is a conundrum to all the people who dont know him personally.. i still find it amazing that an article in the Mirror can have the effect it does on everyone.

Personally the only real problem that we have at City is just too much change in too short a space of time.

We have a glorious history of instability and shooting ourselves in the foot.. and that has to stop once and for all.
The great thing is, that it now can. These things come from the top, the overall culture is set by the decision makers.. and for once we have a serious bloke setting the tone for our club. We couldn't ask for a better person than Khaldoon, we have now got a manager who has the right attributes and experience with a remit for 3 years of progress. The club has sorted itself out with a model for stability for the future with an acquisition policy from the Academy to the first team.

That in itself is a culture change.. that basically puts the idea of ambition and success on a firm footing to be confident about. for me it is no surprise that the players who are struggling with that change are the old guard. What they have grown up with is the security of being at a club that desperately needed them.. in some ways it was the players that provided the continuity at City not the management. That has reversed and the old guard need to get their heads around that.

What they need to do is very simple, because they should realise is that now City have the culture for stability in place there is only one way this club is going. This old guard have to realise that they are now part of the dream that they have always wanted.. yesterday needs to be forgotten, fast.

For the clubs part i am 100% convinced they will do all they can to help the old school players rejig their thinking and get their heads down to work and be a part of what is going to happen.. but part of that help is not pandering to lingering thoughts of the past. Steven Ireland we know has the ability to be one of the best players in the Prem and a a key part of City's future.. Micah, SWP and Johnno are all players who can perform to the level they will need to.
They all need to see that City is now where they would want it to be in order to realise their dreams, they should all be given the chance to show they can make the mental shift and forge a place in that future, i am sure that the club hierarchy want this as long as the players show that they do also.
The shift from being the centre of attention is not an easy one for established City stars with what has gone on over the last few seasons and as in all things it may take a tantrum or two to bring about some home truths and realisations.. but imo that is worth it. There needs to be a recognition that it is not easy for the old school.. there will be some serious doubts and concerns going through their heads, and as fans i think the message should be an overwhelming shout of support that we have reason to be faithful in the belief that these lads can do it.

Since Mancini arrived, he has been under severe pressure and the situation demanded that he didnt take to many risks. But now with a 'normal' situation of pre-season and a whole set of competitions to tuck into, he has more space to address things that would have had to go by the wayside so far. In addition the Club has a vested interest in its own homegrown players, my view is that they will be fully aware of the above and have the patience and desire to get the best out of them before giving up.. i would even go as far as to think they will accept a few tantrums as part of that process.
Finally though i wouldn't believe anything i read in the Mirror or any other so called news rag.

This hilarious, we wouldnt even have a squad if we listened to you, this year its the academy products that arent getting in and theyre unhappy, if we sign aload more players next year, other players will be dropped, they will be unhappy it is the job of the manager to keep them happy not tell them clear off.

If Stevie has said he wants out to further his career he is showing a bit of a losers mentality imo coz if you want to further your career surely City is the place to be.

I reckon we should get Robbie back el pronto. He can be a squad player, earn the same (or more) cash and be asigned Supermans personal coach. ... hmm, might work actually

It's sad that he wants out, i would love him to get his head down and work hard to get back in the squad. But sometimes you just have to move on if he dosn't want to be here no more then Stevie i wish you all the best.

I used to work for a firm In Manchester that sold army gear to army/navy stores all over the world. I thought it would be clever to walk into me local one Friday wearing a gas mask as if to rob the place. I didn't know me Mam was in there, she got up and punched me. ha ha ha

Now that's funny. Me and MarkMak used to have a fancy dress thread in OT, he's the northern hemisphere version of me when it comes to dressing up.

I find Stevie a strange one. It wasn't long ago when he was talking about players not in the team having to up their game and fight to be part of what was happening. I remember at the time thinking, "That's easy to say when you are a regular choice" It seems a very complete about turn in attitude.
I also think back to the start of the season where at Rangers in the friendly he was excellent and then the stand out player in the Celtic game. After scoring at Blackburn on the opening day, I really thought he was going to rip the league to bits. I think the less attacking roll he had (and it started under Hughes) really reduced his effectiveness. A real shame that it has fallen apart so quickly. I really didn't see it coming.
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.

I really, really want Stevie to hit the heights he can be capable of again, with us - but here's the thing...

Before his 'great' season, I thought he was never gonna make it, then he proves me wrong and is brilliant... but season after he's flattering to deceive again!
You can't blame Mancini, as Hughes was manager for the first half of the season, and he wasn't performing then either.
I'd love him to stay and prove it wasn't a one-off, but if he hasn't got the bottle for the fight... see ya Steve!

well dont believe what you read in the papers until it happens.. so we might all be jumping the gun.

The only correlation i can see, apart from Stevie getting all confused with all the changes going on and injury disruptions, is that he has lost form since Tevez came on form.

Someone mentioned this a couple of months into the season, and there is something to be looked at there. Tevez takes up a lot of Stevie's territory and space.. or at least it looks like it. Tevez is less of the kind of player to do one-twos with as he often tries to create everything himself out of nothing.

We would have to ask Doug for a detailed assessment of what goes on in training in respect to Ireland and Tevez, and see if that sheds any light on things.

My own view is that Mancini will be aware of what is going on, and also keen to get Ireland back on form for the potential it represents for the team. I dont think Mancini has had the luxury of time to play around and sort stuff like this out as he needed to rely on players to perform and get results. Now he has the summer and various comps to come he has more chance to get into details and personalities imo.

I'd be gutted if Ireland was to be sold. I think he's quality and just needs a slap to get him back in line and get him working on his game instead of moaning like a little brat. I wouldn't use him as a makeweight for Milner either, i would use Richards or Onouha for that. Ireland has the potential to become a great player for us but Richards & Onouha have had their chance and have come up short for where we are heading.

How sure are people that this has truth in it? That Ireland has really asked for a transfer? I know this derives from Ned's outburst but I'm not convinced by this. Could be true but just as well could be not.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I think it's hilarious. All the people taking Mirror, the rag tabloid we have sued more than one occasion for printing lies about us, so seriously.

Bunch of fucking arseholes.

There is one guy on Bluemoon who is friends with Stephen Ireland (BillyShears) and he has come out and said that there has neither been a verbal nor a written transfer request and that Ireland wants to stay. I guess this is all press bollocks again.
so now as every enemy circles our city
