I think most players would prefer to go to Arse over us/spuds/pool.

That's cool. But I don't see where in my post I said we have more of a chance of getting Cole, or that players would rather come to us than Arsenal?? Aren't United interested in Cole?

Not sure if he'd force his way into our first team.

I just can't see a move to Arsenal. He doesn't strike me as being a signing that Wenger would make. He rarely brings in established Premiership players.

It's almost certainly going to be a move to Tottenham - but I'd still welcome Joe Cole here.

Strange one this. I reckon if City wanted him they would get him.

I can see the argument about staying in London but:

Spuds - all quiet. Surely 'Arry would say 'I luv him, we're doin, all we can to sign him, he'll be with us on Monday....' Instead he just said he had a deal elsewhere. Plus wages?

Arsenal - Notorious for not paying above 80 grand a week (isn't it?), which is what JC refused at Chelsea. Unless they are using the 'Bosman' argument to convince themselves to pay more on this one. Losing Fabregas, lack ambition?

Scum - need players, no money for transfers, would be my bet if not for the 'London' factor

City - need forward midfielders. Plus all very hush-hush, which is a City trademark these days. Not getting many vibes though.

Wait and see innit?!

I cannot understand this, Chelsea won't pay an extra £20K/week but are pursuing a £10M player in Benayoun. If they signed Cole to a new 3 year deal it would end up costing them £3M, well worth signing for that.

I agree - Cole is miles better than Benny Youn.

Arsenal insist they DON'T want England star

Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, Juventus and Manchester City are all keen on Joe Cole who will become a free agent after his contract expires on June 30.

The former Chelsea star insists he will decide after the World Cup but Spurs boss Redknapp, on Talksport, said yesterday: "He's told us that he hasn't decided anything yet and he hasn't done anything definite.

"So there's a chance. I suppose it all depends on the financial side of it and everything else, but according to his agent, hes not made up his mind yet.

"I think that Daniel [Levy], the chairman, has spoken to Joe's agent and he said that Joe didn't want to discuss any moves until after the World Cup. Then he's going to look at his options."

But Arsenal are NOT interested in signing Cole. Mirror Sport understands Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes he already has enough midfielders of the same style.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood confirmed: "I had a long conversation with (chief executive) Ivan Gazidis, who had been with Arsene (Wenger) and his name never came up at all."

Chelsea confirmed yesterday that Cole and Michael Ballack will be released along with Juliano Belletti. Portugese midfielder Deco is also set to join Fluminese.

If he hasn't decided where he's going i definitely think we should get in there with a big wage and blow the rest out of the water.

Not Arsenal according to this:

The Mirror claims that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger "believes he already has enough midfielders of the same style," and therefore does not need out-of-contract Cole.

"I had a long conversation with (chief executive) Ivan Gazidis, who had been with Arsene (Wenger) and his name never came up at all," the Mirror quoted Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood as saying.

I like to watch Joe Cole and his skills but am I the only one who thinks he is too inconsistent to be regular playmaker in really top side?

Not saying I wouldn't take him but that in few years we would have to replace him.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

i'd have him in a shot. in fact, i'd be amazed if we are not trying our best to get him in. top, top player, if a touch injury prone.

still, on a free it would be madness not to at least try and secure his services. a proven top-class premiership attacking midfielder.

The fact that Twitchy is quiet on it is what's bothering me. Cole's been linked with Tottenham for a while and, as a former West Ham Trainee, will know Redknapp well.

It gets right on my tits. "Top, top player" is a new category devised by Jamie Redknapp that he uses when referring to his relatives and his mates. What the fuck was ever wrong with being just a top player? Arrrrrgh.

Doesn't even come close to "It's a big ask" for allround punch-the-TV annoyingness though (and yes annoyingness is a word - in my head anyway)

I'd say pretty much guaranteed he is going to Arsenal or at least deep in discussions with them. These comments are usually said few weeks before the actual signing.

which itself fails to come remotely near to, 'the joe coles, wayne rooneys and steven gerrards', or 'your evertons, arsenals and chelseas', like there are at least 2 of each. Moronic and a clear indicator of brain being cut at the stem, in my opinion.
