Well now the cats out of the bag on mancini's tactics. According to this article he plans to play two holding mids with two attacking full backs as here it says we're going to offer 40 mil(I think) for Danial Alves and pay him around 180 grand a week. So that means Nige and Yaya in the middle so.

Ps Ireland as favourite player and poor comebacks. I think this begs the question, how many chickens do you have?

Manchester City have launched a British-record £40million bid for Brazilian defender Daniel Alves.

City made an approach to Barcelona for the man regarded as the world’s best right-back when they began negotiations to take midfielder Yaya Toure to Eastlands.

The Spanish champions immediately rejected the offer – but Alves has told the Nou Camp club that he wants the opportunity to speak to City because he feels promises have been broken on his contract situation at the club.

City are ready to treble Alves’ current £62,000-a-week wages.

The deal would make him both the world’s most expensive defender – smashing the previous record of £30million that Real Madrid paid for Pepe – and also the highest-paid player at the club.

City’s Abu Dhabi owners want to land at least one marquee name this summer.

And with Robinho set to depart – possibly to Barcelona – they have identified Alves as their man.

Alves, 28, has been taking English lessons for the past 12 months and, although there has been interest from Chelsea, he has personal reasons for choosing Manchester ahead of London.

His head has been turned so much by the determination of City to bring him to England that he will wait until January or even next summer to get his move.

A club source confirmed: “City’s interest is 100 per cent and Dani is excited by the prospect of playing in the English Premier League for a club that has plans to become the best in the world.”

City boss Roberto Mancini is a big admirer of the man who has become key for both Barcelona and Brazil in recent years.

Mancini’s preferred formation is to play with two holding midfielders so that his full-backs can join the attack at will – and there is no one better in the world in that role than Alves.

City feel that they will get two players for the price of one such is Alves’s versatility down the right flank and are ready to pay the price to get him

Alves, a married father of two, is also a dead-ball specialist.

Last summer he scored a sensational free-kick against South Africa to win the Confederations Cup for his country.

City will have to wait until after the World Cup to speak in person with Alves – if they can tempt Barcelona into selling.

Brazilian coach Dunga has turned his team’s World Cup training camp in Johannesburg into a boot camp in a bid to lift the trophy for a sixth time.

Dunga confiscates all mobile phone and laptop computers during the day, allowing players to speak to family and friends only during the evening.

He has also banned all transfer and contract negotiations during the tournament and has told agents to stay away from his players.

City, meanwhile, are continuing to negotiate with Barcelona over Toure.

The midfielder, brother of City skipper Kolo, is refusing to be used as a makeweight in the Catalans’ bid to land Cesc Fabregas.

City are prepared to pay £25m – but that is £10m short of Barca’s valuation.

Eastlands officials hope the La Liga giants resurrect their interest in current British-record signing Robinho so that a player exchange can be agreed.

I suppose if he wants to talk to us and is happy with what we are offering him then Barca will probably have to sell either that or have an unhappy player on there hands.

Alves to City from Barca. Would love it but find it very difficult to believe.

If Milner is £25-£30m then Alves is worth £40m and he would strenghten our team greatly.

Or they could give him a pay rise? I find it quite strange the money that they are paying their players. Alves who is a senior bod on less than Stevie Ireland and I'm sure it was reported that Higuian was on less than our Academy graduates.

I'll give up precisely zero chance of signing Alves this summer.

Just watching Germany v Australia. Ozil looks really special, good vision and breaks forward well, Pity he could not finish an excellent move. A star now and one that will get bigger and bigger IMO.

me too, but he'll have a discussion to get a pay raise. Hard market for us. I was also surprised at the alleged salaries some of the Barca and RM players are on. Maybe there's hope still that we can actually ruin football. Hmmmm...

I would much rather see us spend 30m on Oezil than on Milner... or even on Marin. But they would be much cheaper anyway.

Ozil looked tidy today for sure. TBH that's the first time i've really paid attention to him in action. I know others have big upped him here, and on today's evidence they'd seem to have some legitimacy.

Very good little player. Germany was a wrecking ball today. You only have to hope they don't peak too soon after a performance like that as the Argies did 4 years ago.

Dont forget Spain had this very favourable tax regime for 'very high earners' meaning they paid bugger-all in tax wrt their salaries. This has, I believe, now come to an end due to the whole Zapatero socialist spend spend spend policy crashing down around his ears and Spain being only 2 paces behind Greece and subject to stringent EU conditions.

So they're all getting monster tax hikes which means of course, as you say, that it makes conditions favourable for City right now offering big wages, even though our tax is now 50% for them.

Thiago Silva innit?:

http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3276/ser ... eaves-for-

AC Milan have revealed that Roma defender Philippe Mexes could be brought to the Rossoneri should Thiago Silva leave for Manchester City.

The Eastlands club have reportedly put in an offer for the Brazilian in excess of £25 milloion (€30m), with the Diavoli finding it difficult to refuse, according to Itasportpress.it.

Silva has also requested that the side raise his salary, in order for him to stay.

Mexes was already a target of the Italian giants, but the Frenchman recently stated that it was his intention to stay at the Giallorossi despite seeing little game time during the second half of the season

Selling one of you best players is not the best thing to be doing when you've just had one of the worst seasons in a long time.
