Kompany is only a Centre Half? He played for large parts of his first season in Midfield. It's his preferred position. Zabaleta is also an example of someone who can play in that position if needs be. I didn't list Tevez or Given for that reason.

Poor Vieira is going to be pretty humiliated when he can't even make the Bench. Unless Mancini plays him regardless.

Vieira will be our midfielder in European games. He'll breeze it again the lesser European teams while our other mids get some rest :D simples.

YES!!!!!!!!! I listed Players who can all fill in as a holding Midfielder which is why I didn't list Tevez or Given yet I listed Kompany and Zabaleta. Yaya Toure would have to be significantly better than Barry, De Jong and Vieira in order to merit being signed when there's sufficient cover in the Squad AND other positions that are more crucial to be fillied. i.e. Attacking Midfield.

Kompany did not seldom play in Midfield when he was a regular there for a great deal of his first season.

but we only have 3 current actual holding midfielders - adding another will be in keeping with our 2 quality players in each position policy as we normally play at least 2

Kompany proved his worth as a centreback last season, in fact, in my opinion he was far handier there than he was in midfield.

i agree about Kompany. i like him at CB much more than a mid, but i think he's versatile enough. he doesn't make me truly nervous in midfield. Altho i hate those 40 yard blasts which are into Row Z that he likes to make about 2x a game. Nige is good for one a match as well tho.

Are we fuclin committing Lescott as our LB then? we need some cover there for sure unless we're planning on sending Jinky into the weight room and pumping him up on Muscle Milk all summer. ahem. altho if we did he'd play as a RB.

cheers

We're gonna pretty much be playing 2 games a week for most of the season and with that in mind i've no objection to us signing multiple quality players. The more the merrier. It means that if somebody gets a minor knock in a midweek game they can be given time to recover and not rushed back for the weekend. If we've got quality cover for evey position (even by shifting mids to CB etc) i'll be very happy.

Toure isn't just a holding midfielder. He can do the job but he can also get forward & contribute to the attacks as well, as can Barry. They just do the job they're asked to do. De Jong is the only out & out holding player at the club.

That's my thinking, the only though it we don't really see Yaya going forward at his club, because if you had Iniesta and Xavi ahead of you, you'd sit your arse in the middle and just watch.

It's good that he has the proven discipline to do it when required. With the squad we'll most likely be able to choose from, he may get that role on his own in some games rather than playing with DeJong or Barry.

I can see if being Yaya/Barry for normal matches, Yaya/De Jong for tougher midfields, and Vieira/De Jong for league cup matches against Macclesfield.

Yep but If they could make it work from an attacking point of view, as i mentioned earlier in the thread, Barry, De Jong, Toure in a 4-3-3 ish system away from home would be a fucker of a midfield to get through. I think we'd need 2 attacking fullbacks in order for it to work but it would also mean we could leave, for example, Bellamy, Tevez, Ade further forward without them having to track back quite so much. That in it'self gives more of an attacking edge & even presents possibilities for lazy cunt, should he stay.

So surely all we need is a De Jong, a Barry and a Kompany / a Zabaleta to fill in due to injury? No need for a Vieira and no need for a Yaya Toure. I'm merely concerned about Mancini's like for a very defensive minded City. I want a creative Player or two.

Honestly, these stories should read AGENT WANTS TO SCARE UP INTEREST FOR HIS CLIENT.

AGENT: MAN CITY WANT BURDISSO

Manchester City are chasing Inter Milan defender Nicolas Burdisso, according to the player's agent.

Burdisso's future at Inter looks uncertain with the Argentina international spending the whole of last season on loan at Serie A rivals Roma.

Roma are understood to be keen on making the move permanent, but they could face competition from City with the big-spending Premier League side ready to enter the race for his signature.

Burdisso's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, admits Inter could price the defender out of a move to Roma and that the Italian champions had informed him of City's interest.

Hidalgo told Sky Italia: "Burdisso? Roma and Inter will meet on Monday, the price fixed by Inter is very high and if there isn't agreement the player will return to Milan.

"But I don't know if there is place for him in Inter Milan. He wants to stay in Roma.

"Manchester City? The Nerazzurri have told me of the interest of the British club, I didn't know it".

Sorry just recovering from cracked rib caused by your hilarious repost.

Some people seem to be complaining that we are signing too many defensive players whereas last season with all the strikers that we had on our books we still struggled to put out a decent strike force and I know that we sent players out on loan etc etc but i'd rather have too much cover because the likelihood is we won't get a full season out of Vieira. De Jong gets stuck in so could quite easily get injured. So no, no chance of me blocking any quality signings. After watching em since 75, i'm all for it.
Balotelli......that's a brilliant finish.

Balague now also saying we have agreed a fee for silva. I'd say the mail is proven right by this, Balague knows his stuff when it comes to spanish players, he also mentions yaya being agreed to.
