The $64000 question is do you want to see a sucessful Manchester City side gain honours OR do you want to see the national side improve to the level of the current major players who realistically have a chance to lift the gold trophy?
Without a doubt the premiership as it stands does not encourage the emergence of potential England players because every club wants the best players it can get and that means scouring the planet for the best individual in each respective position on the field.
So if a promising kid from Gorton can be replaced by better from Peru then that's that and the promising local kid may see his career blossom at Stockport rather than City.
The game in this country is cut throat and good English lads have to fight it out with the best the rest of the world have to offer.
Personally, Although I'm a proud Englishman who would love to see the national team get somewhere (semi or even final or even win it) my allegience is to my club and if that means we win the premier league and then go on to take European honours I can handle the national team failing on a regular basis!
I apologise now to all promising young English footballers who may never have the chance to grow into future England internationals but we get the chance to qualify for major competitions every 2 years. City are far more important on a week to week basis and if i'm honest on a scale of 1 to 10 City come 10 and England come 1. Have sympathy for the good lads who 30 years ago would have made it but today look like becoming the stars of League 1.

Probably too young a team for anyone in the England heirachy to have the balls to go with but we have two years to plan for the Euros then a further two years before the next World Cup in Brazil, playing at altitude and in 100 degrees (Waste of time England turning up for that one) so the lads above could get plenty of experience.
