City fire sale

Just read a report saying we need to dump a dozen players to qualify for the new player nationality regs anyone know the true situation, including the repercussions of any more foreign signings?

The new Premier League rules state that a club will have to submit a squad of 25 players on September 1 with only those players eligible to be named in a matchday squad.

How ever you can supplement that list with an unlimited number of players aged 21 or under.

I also think you need at least 8 home grown players in the squad.

When the Januari window closes the same rule apply again. If yoy buy a player you need to un-registrer one of the 25.

For match day you need at least 5 home grown players picked amongst the matchday squad (might be wrong here..).

The new rules require all players over the age of 21 to be registered. Clubs are limited to 25 registered players and, of those 25, at least 8 must have received their youth training (3 seasons between ages 16 and 21) in England or Wales. For Uefa competitions, 4 of those 8 homegrown players must have received their youth training at the club itself. Currently, the City squad is OK as far as these rules are concerned. I think the list below is an accurate assessment, but please correct me if I'm wrong:

1. Given
2. Hart (Club)
3. Taylor (HG)
4. Boateng
5. Richards (Club)
6. Zabaleta
7. Onuoha (Club)
8. K. Toure
9. Lescott (HG)
10. Kompany
11. Boyata (<21)
12. Kolarov
13. Bridge (HG)
14. Y. Toure
15. De Jong
16. Barry (HG)
17. Ireland (Club)
18. Vieira
19. M. Johnson (Club)
20. A. Johnson (HG)
21. SWP (Club)
22. Silva
23. Bellamy (HG)
24. Tevez
25. Adebayor

24 players > 21 years old
6 club-trained players
6 (HG) + 6 (Club) = 12 homegrown players

There is room for one more player over the age of 21.

Santa Cruz
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

RSC! Thanks, I knew I was forgetting someone.

As for Weiss, according to the premier league rules, an Under 21 player is defined as follows:

“"...a Player under the age of 21 as at the 1st January in the year in which the Season concerned commences (ie for Season 2010/11 born on or after 1st January 1989)"

Because Weiss was born in November 1989, I am assuming that he should be treated as an Under 21 player for the entire season.

BTW, the list above excludes several players who I assume will be sold/loaned, which could be referred to as a fire sale. But I don't think the club needs to dump players that would be at home in the starting lineup.

Boyata doesnt count then.

Johnson isnt going to be fit untill xmas so he's not going to be in the squad and i'd imagine he'll go out on loan once he regains full fitness so forget about him this season.

As they are still with the squad, i replace those 2 with Robinho and RSC to make my 25 with what we have currently.

Which leaves the following outcasts to my knowledge

Gonzales, Garrido, Logan, Etuhu, Caicedo, Jo

None of which are good enough so i'd sell the lot of them. Would probably raise over 10 million too.

Yes, you're right. I was thinking Given received all of his early training in Scotland, but according to Wikipedia he arrived in England when he was 18, so he qualifies as a homegrown player.

On a related issue, I think there is a problem for the Europa League. I have taken a closer look at the rules for what UEFA calls "locally trained players", which includes players trained at City and those trained in other clubs within the FA. The UEFA rules state that:

"...eight places are reserved exclusively for “locally trained players” and no club may have more than four “association-trained players” listed on these eight places..."

An "association-trained player" is one who trained at a club other than City, but which is still within the same association as City. If I am reading this correctly, that means we have to cut at least 3 of the 7 association trained players from the squad for the Europa League.

In other words, for the Europa League, we have to cut 3 players from the following list: Given, Taylor, Bridge, Lescott, Barry, A. Johnson, and Bellamy.

Am I reading this correctly?

If you want to read the rules for yourself, they're here: http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Dow ... WNLOAD.pdf

Please ignore my concerns in my previous post about the Europa League rules. I think the cap on "association trained players" relates only to players who are used as part of the quota of 8 "locally trained players". I think the cap is there simply to ensure that there are at least 4 club-trained players. Any additional association-trained players can form part of the 25-man squad, but only 4 of them may be considered part of the quota of locally trained players.

Sorry for the alarm.

Mancini has stated that Robbie doesn't want to come back and with one or possibly two top strikers on the way in you would have to expect RSC to follow out of the door too

if we don't get balotelli or dzeko, which isn't seeming likely in the case of the latter, then i can see RSC still here...which is fine with me. he might have a year of football in him in the next 2-3, you never know. if we don't bring in better he shouldn't leave. Also, we've never seen him both fit and with great service. It might be nice to see him in those circumstances. tin hat on.

cheers

Pretty sure they need to be trained in our academy or else they have to be registered. Balotelli, for example, would need to be listed in the squad.

Can't see Weiss in our PL squad chaps, sorry.

First teamers for the door

Bridge, Weiss, Zabaleta, Ireland, SWP, Jo, Ceicedo, RSC, Robinho

Onuah might find himself amongst that list though I really don't want to see him go

the squad at the moment..?

Keepers
1. Given (HG)
2. Hart (Club)
3. Taylor (HG)
Nielsen
Gonzales

Defence
4. Richards (Club)
5. Zabaleta
6. Onuoha (Club)
7. K. Toure
8. Boateng
9. Lescott (HG)
10. Kolarov
11. Bridge (HG)
Garrido
Logan (Club)

Midfield
12. Kompany
13. Y. Toure
14. De Jong
15. Barry (HG)
16. Ireland (Club)
17. Vieira
18. A. Johnson (HG)
19. SWP (Club)
20. Silva
M. Johnson (Club)
Etuhu (Club)

Attack
21. Bellamy (HG)
22. Tevez
23. Adebayor
24. Robinho

If Balotelli, Dzeko and Milner where to get in.. I would remove Vieira and Robinho and RSC. After that - a really good squad with perhaps a few question marks in the defense (read Bridge).
