Nool, I believe I read he was injured.

Actually, my bad, I knew it was something negative, but not an injury...

Man City board agrees fee but Adam Clayton rejects Carlisle Utd return

Last updated at 11:47, Monday, 12 July 2010

Adam Clayton has snubbed the chance to return to Carlisle United despite the Blues having a bid accepted for the midfield ace.

The revelation was made by Manchester City’s football administrator Brian Marwood, who claimed Clayton wanted to test himself in the Championship this season.

United manager Greg Abbott has made no secret of his wish to bring the 21-year-old back to Brunton Park on a permanent deal after his successful loan stint last season.

But while the Blues’ undisclosed offer for Clayton was accepted by the Eastlands board, the player himself turned down the move.

Marwood said: “We accepted a bid for Adam Clayton from Carlisle but the lad wasn’t too keen on a permanent move.

“Adam enjoyed his time at Carlisle last season but he feels he could do a job in the Championship.”

Abbott last week admitted his pursuit of Clayton had “hit a brick wall” and led to his capture of Huddersfield schemer James Berrett.

The Blues today declined to comment on Marwood’s revelations, although the City chief did offer the Cumbrians a glimmer of hope that a deal may not yet be dead.

“Carlisle gave him a good grounding last year.

“Getting regular playing time in a competitive league has done him good,” Marwood said.

“We would be happy to talk with Carlisle again but the final decision will come down to Adam.”

Clayton has previously stated his desire to fight for his place in the City first team but has world-class competition for a midfield place, with new signings Yaya Toure and David Silva joining Patrick Vieira, Gareth Barry, Stephen Ireland and Nigel de Jong at Eastlands this summer.

“I think he would be an excellent signing for a Championship club but Adam could opt to stay and fight it out at Manchester City,” Marwood added.

“Adam’s a very level-headed lad with a good attitude.

“It’s down to him to show what he can do in training but we haven’t ruled out either getting him back out on loan or on a permanent deal.

“I kept tabs on his progress last year and I was impressed with him.

“He scored a vital goal for Carlisle against Leeds in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and played at Wembley.

“I don’t know if he will manage to break into our first-team this year because we have a lot of quality in our midfield.

“Adam is an ambitious lad, and shares our dream of competing at the highest level but I cannot say whether he will be with us next season or not.”

United target Warren Feeney says he is close to a decision on his future.

The striker is weighing up offers from the Blues, Charlton and Oldham, with the Addicks favourites to land the Northern Ireland international.

Blues boss Abbott, meanwhile, is likely to receive an update on Danny Livesey’s groin injury today, with the centre-half likely to be out of action for two months.

Former United defender Richard Keogh made his Coventry debut in a 2-0 win at Austrian side SV Gaflenz, while Tom Aldred missed Watford’s first pre-season friendly against Boreham Wood with a calf injury.

I agree with this, its typical city isnt it. We go around the world for 'PR' and get shat on by everyone and look wank. The commentators were loving these ''shock results''

Remember under thaskin when we went to places like SA for PR. Im sure we lost every game, and there was a trophy in that too!

NIMELY really impressing me. Even getting back and getting stuck in. Really up for it.

To be fair, If I Was the manager, I wouldn't show Titchy Twatters my full hand ahead of the opening game. But then again I wouldn't play mostly kids either.

Maybe Bobby is looking to see who should stay / go, how many of the kids could make it?

Better than Friday and with a much weaker team.

We look much better with Adebayor up top. Everytime he gets it he looks a threat even if he isnt going at top speed. Jo looks more competant now he has someone to play off but he's just sooooo slow and ponderous.

Nimley has had some good moments. Hope he stays on.

Bridge was rinsed by Richards twice which was scary to see. At least we now have Kolarov.

Hope we bring some names on for the second half and turn this around. Impressed with one or two but Bridge isn't quick enough, ok going forward sometimes but even that's not enough to compensate.
Need to steady the back line and go from there.

Another thing about the commentator, he seems to yell "Great ball!!" whenever a player kicks it, not even waiting to see where it goes.
