Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

So now fans of the club which brought the world Barry Conlan is turning it's nose up at a second of the world's great strikers. After Ibrahimovic we now dont want Torres?
Look at it this way Ted:
Strikers options:
A) Tevez, Adebayor, Balotelli, Santa Cruz
B) Tevez, Adebayor, Balotelli, Torres
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'd love Torres at City if he was fully fit, but unfortunately he's a crock, that would cost £60m.
It'd be the biggest dissapointment since McManaman.

Yep. One of the best in the world who'll only play half the time.
The fourth in the line behind Ronnie-Kaka-Eto'o as well. He's just not going to come here.

IF we go for it he will be this summers ronaldinho/kaka/eto'o - I could do without it
we should sign Dzeko for half the money imo

Not won a carrot for 35 years and we think we can turn our noses up at a player of Torres ability - words fail me.
Almost as laughable as the "I wouldn't want Mourinho" stance which is just as big a joke too.

I've not seen the slimeball, cheating, miserable bastard that Ted has.
I'm bit puzzled as well. Apart from one lousy dive in World Cup, I haven't seen him on his arse that much. In fact, I think he stays on his feet more than most.
Yeah, he looks bit of a nancy boy but so what? I don't care what our players look like. They might be green and have horns but as long as they do business for us I don't give a flying fuck.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

There are a couple of dozen players in world football as good as Torres. Somewhere along the line selectivity has to come in. His injury record and the fact he'd probably turn us down are two very good reasons not to bother imo.

It's not often I disagree with you but Torres is among five best centerforwards in the world and used to Premier League. IF he is available and IF he is willing to join us (two quite a big obstacles) we'd be brainless not to go all in for him. Five year deal and he is guaranteed (or as guaranteed as anything can be in football) to be good for over 100 goals for us no problemo.

Please enlighten me with the 20 odd other strikers better than Torres, a proven Premier League player, as I'd love to see this list.

Didn't say strikers, said players. For the record I've liked Torres since his Atletico does.

He is one of the best yep, and if he's injured we've Ade/Tevez/Balotelli as alternatives. I just don't want to go through the whole Garry Cook/big player dance again.

OK then, lets go with the 20 odd other players better than Torres that we can get - lets hear them?

Also loved the fact he had Fat Lad crying when the rags were awarded that pen last year and Torres went straight over to the pen spot and tore it up with his boot!

My whole point was that I didn't think we could get Torres. I never questioned his ability - just said he's been injured a lot and probably out of our reach. You could say that for many of the best players in the world - we aren't at the level to pull them in yet.

The other thing about this, rather than just my personal dislike of the guy, is that if we do sign him, I recon it should be our aim to make this one of the last occasions we ever need to spend that kind of money on a player. (Messi or an emerging genius of that quality being an exception).
I'm sure it's the plan anyway but if we can put the money into scouting & doing deals for the best emerging players instead, we could become the world leaders in finding the next Torres & Messi & become self sufficient by doing it.

Torres would be an excellent signing IMHO but only on a PAY FOR PLAY basis. I wouldn't mind making him the leagues top earner BUT ONLY IF HE'S PAID WHEN HE PLAYS.

He's a slimey, diving, cheat of Ronaldo proportions, he's always whinging at the ref, he's always injured & he's a miserable fucking twat.
I just don't want to have to cheer him every week, I fucking hate him.

I just like to have some kind of empathy with the players who wear our shirt & however good Torres is, he's exactly the kind of shithouse we've all hated & complained about for the last 40 odd years. If we do sign him he'll be a great player if fit & will help our team no doubt, but it will be the same as Ronaldo's success at the rags; smarmy. I just wish we could do it without creeps like that.
If we do get him, then for me we've crossed that line. In that case I hope we go for Ronaldo to complete the jigsaw next season because if we're going to be a bunch of horrible cheating wankers we may as well have the best.

I get what your saying alright - I just can't take to him and that's weird considering I never ruled out taking to Bellamy and I found it so hard to keep my admiration for Tevez quiet even when he was at the rags.
I don't think we had a problem scoring goals last season and we've just added Silva with Balotelli on his way.
Our problem was an inbalance in midfield (which Yaya should sort out) and lack of quality attacking full backs (Boetang & Kolorov) for the system Mancini seemed to want to use.
My overall point is that while it is not in doubt that Torres is pure quality, he has been one of the most vocal against our ability to attract top players and I don't think he is a priority TBH.
Which suits me because he comes across as a fucking wanker who has done it all at club level, when in fact he has won a lot less than some of the players who are already here that he has indirectly accused of loving money more than trophies.
You could say, he's a bit ahead of himself for my liking and I don't think we need HIM to win the league.

See that's exactly where I disagree with you mate. I don't think he is horrible cheating twat. Again, apart from that silly dive on World Cup I haven't seen him dive that much. Certainly nothing like Tranaldo.
