RAG: People's main reason for fearing City in the coming years is the budget available to them - they're the richest club in the world and can outbid everybody else in terms of transfer fee and wage. The point I was making was, despite investment of over £200m since the Abu Dhabi group took over, they're nowhere near where they need to be. And a lot of that money has been wasted, £24m for Lescott, £26m for Adebayor, £35m for Robinho, £18m for Jo, £18m for Cruz, £12m for Barry. If they're simply going to spend those sorts of sums on those sorts of players, then no, we have nothing to fear.
Would Yaya get into our team in a 442? I think he'd play here and there, but I don't think he'd imrpove us a lot, I don't think he's any better than an on-form Carrick or Anderson, and he's certainly not worth the money City paid for him.
Silva may be more consisent in a different league but the PL is completely different. Obertan is a raw talent, if we can get the best out of him he'll be very good for us in the coming years, of that I have no doubt. Silva has a lot of talent from what I've seen of him too, but there's no guarantee he'll realise that. We paid £28m for Veron and he flopped massively.
I'd be surprised if they didn't bring in a goalkeeper or defender myself, considering the problems they had when Given got injured last season, but it takes a lot more than a group of 11 players to win the title. You need strength in depth (something they don't have), they need a quality manager (Something I don't believe Mancini to be), and they need a strong mentality. Look at us in 91/92, looked to be cruising to the title and when we just bottled it and threw it away.
All City have is a lot of big money signings (not very good ones), a lot of big ego's, and a lot of players who are there purely for the money. It's a circus show and will continue to be so for the forseeable future.
Mancini will also most probably be sacked this season if City aren't competing at the top end aswell. I'd be hugely surprised if he lasted a full season. They're a long way from competing at the top end of the table in my opinion.
As it stands it's:
Man Utd
Chelsea
Arsenal
Spurs
City
Villa
Everton
Liverpool
Everybody else.
City will hover around in the second group. I fully expect 4th place to be as wide open as it was last year.
