Mark Hughes is targeting a top-10 finish this season after describing his appointment as Fulham manager as a 'good fit'.

Former Manchester City boss Hughes was speaking at his unveiling on Tuesday after being named as Roy Hodgson's successor last week.

Hughes has agreed a two-year contract at Craven Cottage after Fulham failed in their initial bid to bring in Ajax coach Martin Jol.

Welshman Hughes is looking forward to getting back into management for the first time since his exit from City last December and feels he has taken on the right job.

"I made the decision that this is the right club for me at this time," said Hughes. "It feels a good fit."

Revealing how much he had missed the game, he added: "The attraction obviously, is the opportunity to get back into work.

"I needed to get back to work. The situation with Fulham was maybe the perception I had of Fulham's ambitions."

Hodgson left Craven Cottage for Liverpool this summer having masterminded arguably the greatest season in their history, leading them to the inaugural Europa League final.

Hughes said: "I think the job Roy did was magnificent. He maximised the results out of the group he had. That's what I've always tried to do.

"The way I set my team up, I think that will lend itself to the work Roy put in place."

Because Fulham are not in Europe this season, Hughes was confident of bettering the club's Premier League finish of 12th last term.

"We don't have the distraction of the Europa League," he said.

"That's a big ask when you're involved in that competition. We had that experience the year before at City.

"I think the fact we haven't got that this year is a bonus. If we can get into the top 10 this year, that'll be good progress."

Looks like they're going for Roque after all.

Taxi......

Nah. If Al Fayed gets wind of the fact that Hughes intends splashing the cash on Santa he'll wrestle Hughes to the ground to get that £50 back and put it towards buying out Martin Jol's contract

Well except for the fact that the owners clearly felt he wasn't doing a good job in the circumstances and that he wasn't fully on track with their expectations Hughes has pretty much nailed it.

"Please fasten your seatbelts as we depart Hughesworld. Mark hopes you enjoyed your stay and thank you for visiting."

ultimately i believe he got sacked because he was an old-school, my way or the highway type leader, and the structure City are putting in place with all the administrators, and executives, etc couldn't fit that model. Hughes wanted to control everything and i'm guessing he was just a complete pain in the ass. That plus dire football draws equals death. I think it's that simple. Have you ever worked with some know-it-all knobhead who seems aloof, detached and just has to have the final say on everything? as soon as that cockface is wrong the daggers come out. It's kind of old school...i don't mind it. Mancini, being Italian and used to that type of structure and political intrigue, knows how to comport himself with the suits and the douches. He just bides his time and chooses his battles i'm sure.

Anyway, good luck Mark. I wish you'd done a bit better for us. I miss that attacking verve we had for about 2 months last season. I don't miss shipping goals like a fuclin pub team tho. Hey. Ho.

cheers

That is absolute bullshit. We were eight when he was sacked with no wins in ages.

I'm pretty sure we won the day he was sacked chief.

Ah yes, when the decision over his sacking was taken what I meant.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Except for Mancini who finished in 5th place, the same position Hughes left us in.

Oh, and any other manager who had been give £200m to move up 4 places from mid table to 5th.

I believe it was edge who coined the "hughes lickers" phrase - he should have patented it and got royalties - he'd be minted

Remarkable isnt it. Without Europa League, he wants to improve by a whole 2 places. What an utter fucking waste of oxygen.

I hope fulham fans are already getting a taste of how that cunt manufactures himself excuses long before the event, because by the sounds of it, he is already setting expectations of a wank season, and he views European Qualification as bothersome.

That will explain his first season with us then, and why he finished 9th instead of top 6.
