I've just seen it and it wasn't the suit I was hoping for.

Very disappointing.

Come on mate, admit it. You've got stirring passions for him and that's why you have these nasty thoughts in a bid to ward off the love you really feel for him. Don't worry mate, there's quite a few of you on here.

The venom directed at that bloke from a small minority is incredible.

No way on Earth he could possibly deserve it for what he did in his time at City, good or bad. Ridiculous & a little bit sad.

All i will say is he had the rags measure and we would have won the league cup if we had kept him till seasons end.

No but we attacked them and got shafted outn of a point at the swamp in what is regarded as the best Derby in years.

This Leslie thing is a weird one for so many still. On the one hand the club needs stability and despite some shocking results (those home draws) the board appeared to keep faith, they wanted (or appeared to) him to succeed. There were game that it all just clicked and City tore opposition apart with classic attacking flair. The downside being that he was a rag, which for many, ment he had to work harder and he had the smaller club excellence record which usually dosen't bode well on the step up. It was a period of classic City mind, desipte the investment, back to back matches were rarely the same. At the death I think even a large amount of his detractors thought the club dealt with his exit in a poor and unprofesional way. I've always said that a football club usually indicates the type of person you are and thankfully no major personality disorders were reported in this period either .... which was nice

Jesus. We've had 3-1 and 4-1 derby's. We've managed to beat them at the Swamp. All in recent years. Yet you think that possibly THE most gutting Derby loss in my time was the best.

Ok. I can understand why people liked Hughes if they can draw satisfaction from that.

Generally, I think too many people are obsessed with media these days. People go on about how great manager Hughes because 'he stood up for us in media'. I have to give him that. He talks a good game. But media skills isn't something I'm particularily looking for in manager. I would like them to be able to manage group of players properly.

KK is right though. That grey suit WAS really lovely. I'd like to use the same tailor one day and get me one of those. So not all bad.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

We may have actually TRIED to beat them on our own ground with Wes Brown playing centre half though.

Hopefully we've seen the last of that kind of defeatist thinking from Mancini now he has players he's confident in & he can show the same kind of toe to toe attitude Hughes did rather than changing the way we play to suit them.

And the double during the reign of Svennis Pennis. We were impeccable. Sad when it all turned out a bit Tony Blair.

Still though, some day Id love to go on a cruise with Sven, matching speedos, gray chest hair.

And lamp the kegels out of some bubble head half my age with my Swedish friend cheering me on.

The more I think about this, the more I think the Hughes/Al Fayed combination is doomed to failure.

Hughes is a control freak and one of the main reasons he got the chop at City (I believe) is the fact that he clashed with Cook/Marwood in relation to him wanting to hold all the reins. Ultimately indifferent results gave them the excuse to bin him but I believe that him wrestling with those two for total control over certain aspects of the club (incl the academy side of things) probably significantly contributed to him losing allies and then being jettisoned more readily when the wolves were at the door as a consequence.

Having worked with Egyptians for a year now, I can say that they are people who, when they are the boss, like everyone to know it.

Al Fayed strolling into Hughes' presser yesterday was a prime example of "Egyptian management". Not starting off the conference together but walzing in mid way, wanting some focus on him and then the stunt with the fifty pound note to emphasise the fact that he is the one in control....jokey or not there is a serious undertone to that in arabland.

I can't see Hughes being able to work under Mo's style of management for long.....although....he agreed to work for Thaksin so maybe there is a whole Hitler/Mussolini thing going on in his psyche?

I'm right with you. Think Sven would be tops!

Shook hands with him once in Sweden and my god he is charismatic. No wonder how he can pull birds. Should've been politician.

I've held this view for quite a while Ant and I do believe, like you say, that it was his ultimate downfall. At the same time, I do hold a theory that this problem had a big impact on that period of the season, with a power struggle going on away from prying eyes. To back that up, I can state that as far back as the Burnley game it was very clear to me that things were not right with the bosses, and even at that time I believe they were looking elsewhere, and it was an excuse to move him on. We had come out of our drawing spell with a cup win over Arsenal, beat Chelsea and drew away to Bolton, all before the typical Spurs loss. We then beat Sunderland and were about to go into a 10 game spell where every game was realistically winnable, yet they chose that period to move him on.
