Training Thursday 5/8

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Thu Aug 05, 2010 1:01 pm

They only got back after 2am today but many were out training at 11.30. Missing from last night's game were Hart,Toure x2,Richards,Zaba,SWP,Ade,RSC,Jo,Barry,Kolarov but in total there were still 17 i the group. My first sighting of Silva an Boateng and Boateng is certainly a unit.Another notable absentee today was Brian Kidd so Platt basically ran everything.

Younger ones involved today were Cunningham,Boyata,Logan and Etuhu ( does Kelvin still count as a younger one?) and Weiss.

The most obvious thing missing in today's session was the work Mancini always did with the whole squad and sometimes smaller groups where he worked on team formations and movements together. Platt did plenty of other regular stuff but focussed strongly on the basics of pass, movement and first touch control.Lots of simple stuff which we do seem to be average at in games where passes bounce off players rather than come under instant control.Sadly this was a little too evident today as well but that's what practice is for isn't it.

Great to see Tevez and Nigel back today and both seemingly in great spirits with some good by play between them. The last exercise today was a game on half a pitch for about 10 minites. Carlos opened the scoring , Etuhu and Boyata swung the game the other way before an equaliser from Ireland ( not really sure it was him) and then with the last move of the game Silva ( who had been very quiet) set up Caicedo who finished very well past Shay.

As everyone else wandered off Bellamy did some work with Weiss. Bellers as coach and Weiss practicing finishing with volleys and half volleys from his feeds.Interesting to see especially as Bellers had taken a knock on a knee near the end of the game which didn't look too good.

thanks Doug.. feels like the season is back under way now you are back.

couple of things.. have you any idea of the training schedule for next week.. ie players will disappear for internationals.

also it just wouldn't be a proper training report thread if someone didn't ask how M. Johnno was looking ;)

Not a clue for next week but if they are mostlya way for the games on Wednesday I can't see them getting together until Friday and whether that is at Carrington or somewhere down London way i don't know.

As for MJ , he wasnt around today so no progress report.

Unbelievable isnt it.........who would have thought that the bulbous headed "slag city off at every given opportunity" would be heading the training at city with 9 days to go to the kick off for the new season.

Im going to chop my fucking head off with a blunt knife.

This pre-season worries me greatly.
Even ignoring poor results and some horrendous displays, it has been erratic to say the least. A tour of the USA, governed by commercial considerations rather than football ones. Players returning late from WC duty with insufficient time to prepare and get match fit for the new season, only for some of them to be away again on international duty and missing the crucial final week. Mancini (quite rightly being away to be with his father), leaving us under the control of Platt at such an impotant time.

Several questions arise...Will the players be up to speed by the time we play Spurs? Have the new players had any chance to bed in with the team and even begin to get any understanding with them? Quite frankly, I think this has been the worst pre-season preparation I have seen at City for many years.

Calm down calm down.( That doesn't look write in type!)
The sessions seemed fine to me so let's not go OTT just because it's him. Most of them have had plenty of Mancini so know what he wants and all be right on the night. ( he says hopefully)

Agreed. And even if USA trip is essential, why disrupt the only week with the full squad by flying to and fro Germany?

The Platt issue isn't the major worry for me Doug, I exopect he has been given his instructions. It is the whole picture that I find worrying...an accumulation of mismanaged events, some governed by commercial interests and other beyond City's control.

The thought that the vast majority of the squad appear to have had little or no preparation for what could be our most important season for years.

doesn't seem like it could be much worse does it.. ive just had this vision of Kiddo having taken ill from all the talking to camera he has had to do in the last few days and Phlatt will have to take over. Bobby wont get back from Italy and yes... Phlatt will have to lead us out against Spurs!!!!!!

im sorry but i just cant help hysterically laughing at this idea.

Carl mate i think it might be an idea to go into the blunt knife business.. what are the set up costs got any idea?

can we print a nice bold CTID on the handles?
