There has been a lot of doom and gloom around recently. But seeing most of the squad together finally and the new signings presented it has given me that CMON!!! feeling and cant wait now for the start of the season. Balotelli and Milner look set to join.. fuclme we really do have a top top squad. Tevez and DeJong are going to give us some energy and this Kolarov geezer looks like he takes things pretty seriously. i know there are still a lot of questions but we haven't even seen this lot together yet.
It has started to put things in a bit of perspective for me seeing them together today and im starting to think even more i dont care what happens in the Valencia game as long as some key players get some game time together without the pressure of a comp match. Im also starting to chill out about the Spurs game.. if we are not up to speed then so what, it is more a fault of the WC than the players or the manager.. it would be great to start off well, but im now less bothered as i believe that the kind of quality, versatility and power we have is going to muscle its way into form anyway sooner rather than later. Im going to have to put a tin hat on for this but i would even take a loss to Spuds and the Scouce if it galvanised the team into a serious run of wins. This is a seriously good squad of players that are going to frighten the living daylights out of a lot of teams.. including the so called top 3.

Of the players we have recruited and Super Mario and Milner who is proven, there is only Silva i think might take a while to settle into the prem, the rest of them look like they are going to be dishing it out rather than recieving it.

Would be comforting to see a spell of dominating Valencia, but tbh i'd rather go to Spurs with them not knowing what the fucl they are going to get.

BBS with the money we have spent and looking to be perfectly honest as we have in pre-season its no wonder people are on a downer i like you am usually upbeat about our chances.But i feel there is something wrong at the club at the moment i cannot put my finger on it but we dont look fit we looked fucked in the US and also the other night in Germany.I may be wrong but i think we are yards too slow at the moment to feel optimistic.

I'm very optimistic for the season but worried for the start of it & we need a goodish start if we're to put in a title challenge. The reasons I'm worried are pretty much covered in Gillie's post. I do think the new players could move us up a gear though. The Valencia game may cheer us miserable sods up.

Actually, I'm not sure I agree entirely. Racing away with the start would make us instant targets. Last year we found ourselves public enemies: Adebayor's celebration was one of the worst acts committed on a sporting pitch people had ever seen (could have caused a full blown riot), his kick was a disgrace. Press could print what they liked, indefinite time was available in the derby, there was the phantom red card for Bellamy, there were games where a defender could have taken out a gun and shot Robinho without getting booked. These things happen if we're a threat. If we're only 2nd (or narrowly first) and just doing well then the powers that be can relax a little because they mightn't need to do anything at all. Chelsea won their first title when the scum and Arsenal were still mostly worrying about fucking up each other and only realised when Chelsea had a strong lead in the prem.

Those 2 things aren't compatible: we can't all pull together and get behind the team if we're starting off by dividing supporters. They're also unlikely, the people who wanted to give Hughes time are the ones who'll be wanting to give Mancini time (except for some occasional facetiousness).

I'll be more comfortable if we're maintaining a solid secure top4 pace within touch of the leaders for the first while than if start off like a bat out of hell and then completely lose the plot the first setback we have. We're just the sort of nutters who'll blow a fuse because we came 2nd. We're already setting up for DOOM, DOOM, DOOM and the season hasn't started. People here are ready to give up if we lose against Spurs as if our season will be over.

I think it's how we look in the early games that's even more important. If we look full of talent but lose, City fans will still be full of optimism & expect to quickly turn the corner; we have a ready made excuse with all the new players etc. If we look like shite however, we could struggle to turn it round for a while. Seeing as we almost finished 4th last season though & those players are still here, there's no good reason for us to look poor in the opening games. There's no law says we have to play all the new players at once.

I'm really looking forward to the Valencia game. Just to see the capabilities of the new players without the fear of a bad result

I think if we can sign Milner we will improve immediately as he knows the Premiership so well, but the existing squad may take some time to play to their potential and may not be given the time to adapt given the way the media whip fans into a frenzy with every bad result. By September we will have callers phoning 606 and demanding managers should be sacked

i realise it is a cliche that no one wants to accept, partly because it defies logic. but you cant read too much into pre-season to judge what is going to happen in competitive games. and there is no other real evidence for being negative about the opening games or any other games other than what is being read into the pre-season performances. We were pretty solid and pretty dangerous last season and we have seemingly added more solidity, more creativity and if Mario signs some more unpredictable dangerousness. Nah, there is no point being negative now and worrying as it adds fuel to the press and their campaign against us before we start.. the spuds game is the true test and we should start to judge and make assumptions after that. it will be the first competitive game and the first chance to really see what this lot are made of and have in mind.

Besides the Uefa qualifier is a far more important game in terms of our season as a whole. If we trip up and fail it will be like starting up your new car in gear and going straight into a canal.

i'd rather keep spurs out of a CL place at the end of the season and get to the final of the Europa than being bothered about if we are at our best right now.

We have probably the strongest squad in our entire history, we have signed quality players, the type other clubs previously signed while we looked on enviously. It's a great time to be a blue, especially for the long suffering one's who've seen many more down's than ups. Can't wait for the season to start, I watch quit a lot of Spanish football and have seen the likes of Yaya and Silva doing their stuff over the last few years, I literally can't believe we've signed them.
