Like I said, definately in midfield though.

Well at least someone is answering the thread question - where does he fit? - rather than being money / Stevie obsessed

In the modern game you need your width to come from FBs - but done wrong and you are left vulnerable to counter-attacks with lots of players out of position - how many times did you see Bridge last year getting into the heart of the opposition defence - only just to lose the ball because he has poor delivery - even worse - how many times did you see Micah lose the ball because he has no attacking capability and then just 'jog back' whilst we were being overrun

I think the Kolarov will be a magnificent signing and I have similar hopes for Boateng - but whilst there will be better delivery cover is required - and Milner can be excellent in this regard - snuffing out the counter and turning it to attack either through the middle or down the wings.

This is what Chelsea do so well - and (wash my mouth out) the scum used to do so well - these teams do not find themselves with the opposition flooding through their middle or down the wings whilst lot of players jog back out of position

Along with Ya Ya and NDJ I can see Milner putting the bite on the opposition in MF and getting possession back when things were at risk of breaking down and feeding Silva - thereby meaning that Carlos does not have to keep coming back to the CITY half to pick up the ball and Ade might look better because he gets the ball where he can hurt teams

I share all the sentiment and value for money concerns - but this move makes me feel more confident in Mancini spotting the big issues and getting the right balance in the squad - heaven forbid, if we were to sign that chap Robinho to play as the CM he would probably flourish with this level of steel alongside

Like many others have said, his versatility is the key for me. He can play well either sat in the middle or wide and gets up and down the pitch. English players values are currently over-inflated and so added to the 'City' factor the price is high. We're still pursuing him so that tells us that Roberto sees him as a key figure in his plans. Milner v Ireland is a no contest for me. Ireland has shown that he cannot adapt his game to fit in with the plans of the new manager and that unfortunately will signal his exit

I'll be surprised if both Ireland & Bellamy are here by the end of the window

Milner is a decent squad player, I wouldn't start him which is why spending huge amounts or losing Ireland ( a better player than him) in the process would be insanity.

Worst deal since losing Dunne and gaining a weaker player in Lescott and paying 25m for him too.

The only people I've ever met who dont rate Milner are some City fans. Everyone else thinks it's a good signing!

Can I just mention on the Stevie issue, what is wrong with letting him go? I for one would love to see him in the first squad bursting through on goal and creating the play, but if he isn't up for it and wouldn't mind a new challenge then let him move on and kick-start his career again. I'd rather see one of our Academy successes doing for another team than wondering if he'd have ever made it with us whilst sat on the bench.

Like I said, definately in midfield though.

It was talked about this morning on the radio with him being on the right of a diamond, something like below?

Given
Richard Toure Boateng Kolorov
Yaya
Millner Johnson
Silva
Tevez Ade

that makes sense to me, but as im part of the free floating brigade ( see our website ) i see that as only the way of putting it on paper, so in reality it would be difficult to pick up where exactly the three in front of Yaya would be assigned to. could be wishful thinking from me, but i live in hope

On the radio they seemed to think Silva would float around behind Tevez and Ade as he did at Valencia. I would presume that Milner and Johnson would have do a lot of tucking in at times when we didnt have the ball and then expand when we did. I dont think this would be a formation played away from home though as i think RM will deploy two DMs.

yeah away games will props be two DMs, interesting thing is though depending which two you choose to get more or less Defensive Midding. If Yaya was one of the two you would prob see more good distribution from deep.
