David Luiz stories have resurfaced in Spain. He has allegedly played so well in pre-season against Sunderland and Villa that Mancini is even more determined to get him.

Silly figures being mentioned, but this guy could be seriously good in a year or two.

He ALREADY IS bloody good mate. Would be perfect fit for Premier League imo. I'd definitely sign him.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

ManCity Keen On Benfica Defender David Luiz

Date: 09-Aug-2010

David Luiz

Big-spenders Manchester City are set to splash the cash again in the transfer market as they look to add a defender in the form of David Luiz to their squad before the close of the transfer window, according to reports.

A Bola reports that the Premier League club are keen on landing the Benfica defender despite reportedly having a €32 million offer rejected for the 23-year-old last month. The centre-back has been linked with English champions Chelsea and Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid too, but it appears that Man City are ready to try their luck with the player once again.

It's been reported that City had a representative at the Portuguese Super Cup match between Benfica and Porto in Aveiro on Saturday night and it appears that the club from Eastlands are very impressed with the player and want to sign him. An improved offer of €40m could be made in the coming days.

Luiz is currently with the Brazilian national side, who will take on the USA in an international friendly in New York on Tuesday evening.

Looks like Luiz and Mr 'unknown show stopper' may go to the wire on 31st Aug.

I think that's fairly obvious to all isn't it. MON going can only speed Milner up. No points for Tolmie today.

Well Tolmies Toupee is better informed than...well just about everyone on BM save for the Bolton fan who wandered in 2 years ago and said we had been bought by a group from Abu Dhabi a day or so before the news broke. Now that's proper ITK.

To be honest though I think the Balotelli deal has been done for a while as has Milner its just that we have to put up with this dance of the seven veils before someone goes "Ta-da" and whips away the last one.

Just out of interest - did you think he played like a man who will take us to League Champions in the last 12 months? Or one who would take us in the opposite direction?

My thought is that a move for Ireland and City probably suits both parties. He needs to play every week and have the team formation set-up around him, and he wont get that at City anymore. I wish him well, but I think the time is right - thats my $0.02

Fully agree with that. I think we are playing it at a deliberately slow pace in terms of actually concluding these deals so as to give our competition to whom proceeds may directly (or more likely indirectly) flow less time to tie up their own deals.

Balotelli has long been absolutely nailed on IMO....Milner less so but i think it is now.

Quite happy for us to do this, both players will be good additions but both are capable of being eased into the team in 1-2-3 weeks from now.

think about where the money from Milner and Balotelli are going? To Villa to potentially, or allegedly spend in the transfer market. And since perhaps it isn't, it maybe played a part in getting a rival's manager to fucking quit basically. Nice. And from Inter -- it's going right into Hodgson's pocket from the sale of mashcerano.

why put the money into the UK market until we absolutely have to? no sense in strengthening Villa or Scouse 1. Their panicky buys during the last 2 weeks of the window once the season starts will be less fruitful than what they could have done 2 weeks ago.

cheers

James Milner ready to sign for Manchester City

James Milner's protracted transfer from Aston Villa to Manchester City is finally set to go through on Thursday after the two clubs agreed a package worth about £26m.

Stephen Ireland – whose agent today held talks with the Villa chief executive, Paul Faulkner – will sign for Villa as part of the deal, providing he reaches a settlement with City over the remainder of his contract. Discussions will take place between Ireland's representative and City's hierarchy tomorrow morning.

Ireland has been valued at £10m, meaning that Villa will receive a further £16m in cash in addition to the former Republic of Ireland midfielder. Should Ireland pull out of the transfer – there is no indication that is likely to happen at the moment despite Martin O'Neill's resignation yesterday – Milner will move to Eastlands in a straight cash deal. Both players have been pencilled in for medicals at their respective new clubs on Thursday and could make their debuts at the weekend.

The latest development will come as a relief to all parties involved. The Guardian revealed City's interest in Milner almost four months ago but negotiations between the two clubs have dragged on. City tabled a £20m bid in May that was flatly rejected, with Villa holding out for closer to £30m for a player who cost £12m two years ago. In the end Villa agreed to lower their demands although many of the club's supporters will feel pleased by the final outcome.

Ireland's inclusion as a makeweight in the transfer was thrown into doubt when O'Neill unexpectedly quit, but the talks that had been agreed before that development went ahead as planned. The 23-year-old, who was voted City's player of the year at the end of the 2008-09 season, appears to have accepted that he has no future with Roberto Mancini in charge. Having signed a lucrative five-year contract with City little more than 12 months ago, he will hope to negotiate a sizeable settlement.

Patrick isn't just a friend of the boss. He's a proven winner who can look people in the eye and talk about a winning culture and what it takes.

Im not excited about seeing Ireland leave either but he really has had little positive to show in the last 12 months. Patrick is here for this season because he could extend his deal and that's all. Who honestly would want to buy him from us? He came on a loan, got to extend his deal a season and that will be all. Cant hurt as a dressing room influence. Ireland is a whole different kettle of fish. Ill be sad if he leaves but maybe the fresh start will give the kid a fresh start and a clear head to get himself back on track. He needs a change for sure.

Cheers
