I'm here for the title, says new star Milner

James Milner signed up for Roberto Mancini's Blues Revolution today and immediately joined the City manager in setting his sights on finishing top of the pile next May.

England midfielder Milner completed his move from Aston Villa this afternoon then assured Blues fans that nothing but the big prize will satisfy his ambition - or long-term admirer Mancini's for that matter.

James, who joins in a deal that takes Stephen Ireland to Villa Park, admitted: "It didn't take too much selling by the boss when you see the players who are already here and the plans for the club.

"The last thing he said to me was 'be ready for the next game', and then he said 'be ready to win the Premier League', and that's my ultimate aim - that's what I want to do and why I'm here.

"There's a lot of competition to get there, it's where we all want to be. I'm ambitious and I want to win trophies here. I believe this is a great place to do that and I believe we will do it. Hopefully, sooner rather than later."

Milner's transfer was first mooted before this summer's World Cup, where he featured in England's campaign, and he added: "The move seems to have gone on a long time - now all I want to do is get out on the field and play.

"I'm ready and raring to go now we've
finally got everything done. I can't wait
to start a new chapter"

"This is a great club that's going places very quickly. I played at Maine Road with Leeds and the new stadium has always had a great atmosphere when I've played here."

Having made his League debut at 16, Milner has acquired huge experience at 24 - including a remarkable 45 Under-21 caps - but he expects City's stellar squad to help him become an even better player.

James, poised for a League debut in the home opener against Liverpool on Monday night, said: "If you're not improving and learning every day then there's something wrong.

"I've been lucky with my team-mates and managers, and you have to learn when you are surrounded by top players. You try to take the best things out of their game, add them to your own, and try to become the best player you can."

you know that this lad will certainly try. Thinking about it a bit now, Milner signing might just allow Bobby to drop his caution in formation against pool. Being already proven in the prem and his work rate give us a lot more security while the team is getting to know each other. I can see Milner and Tevez being very effective at getting in other teams faces. I think this is the signing that is going to make the difference in this early part of the season, and i am now looking forward to the Scoucers without concern.

Just seen interview on OS - articulate , level headed but what came through , to me anyway , was his determination to be a winner and if this lad wants it as badly as I think , this will rub off in a very positive manner on the squad members and help quicken the gelling process

Yeah but as I said before like you said a minute ago, obviously it's all about on the day, day in day out, on and off the pitch obviously putting the shift in and at the end of the day when all's said and done, like I say it's all that counts to be fair.

one interview when they sign is allowed. And at least he didn't call us massive club!

I think he will be a very good signing for us. Not the saviour some think but he has excellent shot and works his nuts off on the pitch.

I'm really really sad to see Ireland go and I think we made a mistake on that but it's not Milner's fault Stevie was part of that deal.

Welcome to Manchester James!
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

No, I'm going to be a whiney little bitch (like a certain poster on gamedays) until everyone gets it in their skull that this is a poor decision by Mancio. I had hoped that Stevie was going to get that stand named after hi
after years of fantastic service. I am hurting over this decision and it's going to take some major efforts from superjaw for me to get over it.

I just can't believe that we get superjaw, they get superman. Plus cash! Poor.

I've never been 100% convinced by signing Milner although if you check him out on YouTube he looks better than all our foreign imports :-D

However now that he's here I've obviously started looking for the positives and you don't have to look far, his work rate is excellent and he seems to have all the best bits of Bellamy's psyche (determination, self belief etc) without the annoying whiny twat bits

As for Stevie, I loved him too Dazzler but try as I might you really can't defend his lack of performance or effort last season, there is every chance that he could go on to be a world beater at Villa and make the financials of this transfer seem a bit foolish but unfortunately he has done nothing since Mancini has arrived to show he warrants a place in our squad. I hope he shows the same respect for our fans and club as Milner showed for Villa in his Interview

I think there's a very small outside chance mate. Which is why he is valued at 8M and Milner at 24M, and why he hasn't gone to Scum, Chelski, Arse or even the Dippers. Even 'Arry didn't say "I'd luv to 'ave young Stevie Ireland' at this club". Which is really saying something, cos he seems to want every fucker else!
