Fucking hell what a game that was though!!

ha ha too true, thought we pulled a master stroke after that game

I nearly had stroke a few games later when i dawned on me how utterly awful mcpointy was.

Luckily Milner is not a one game wonder like the pointy one, he will give 1110% level high quality performances every game he plays, that's just the type of player he is.
And he wasn't in his own preferred position... I can imagine him in centre midfield playing behind a strike which will give us another dimension.
We have so many players who are versatile position wise.. FFS even Lescott looked half decent as a full back
Could be the missing piece. A genuine box to box lung busting midfielder that we have cried out for - keep it up please Mr Milner.

The beauty of Milner seems to be that he has an all round game.He might say his best/favourite position is center mid but the way he plays takes him all over the field. He has a good touch , a good awareness of players around him , he can cross a ball , decent with both feet , will score a few goals and he gets back and defends too. Looks the real deal to me.

The comparison with Ireland is pointless.I do hope Stevie finds his game again as he was really good for that season but somehow it's disappeared and in center mid or wideish right he has looked lost and especially in his debut for Villa.

still don't think there is too much difference talent wise between him and ireland but milner is a born winner and ireland is a born loser-thats the diff

More or less what I was going to say. He had smashing game last night and I was very impressed. But let's not go overboard either way. I don't like it when players get trashed after one or two games and equally we should wait for few months before deciding if someone is good or bad for us. I've made myself the mistake before as have lot of other people I'm sure.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Agreed direct comparisons with Ireland are not really valid - I think that CITY fans are quite sentimental and a lot of the posts on here over the transfer was the desire not to let a 'home grown' talent go

That said - and not directly comparing as players in the same positions - when you analyse the Villa game you see how Stevie - for all his good intentions and effort in the opening minutes - just disappeared and could not get hold / retain the ball - he was actually bullied (by Newcastle FFS) - that game and an analysis of Milner last night should show everyone that we got - less a good swap (because for me it was not a swap) - a good deal, because we were able to acquire one of the top talents in the English game and a missing link for us - but also to move on a player who would not get a game for us - so that saved on the squad numbers, transfer fee and wage bill

I wonder what the talk was on villa fan forums last night?? and how Stevie felt if he watched the game

As others have said comparisons are moot at this point, Stevie had some excellent games for us too. However one comparison can be made straight away and that is of their attitudes, Milner has a determination and application on the park that he has shown throughout his career whilst Ireland has proved himself to be sensitive and insecure. I think if you look at all of Mancini's signings you see a strength of character being highly prized by him and Milner has that in spades. (still looks like Herman Munster though)
