Anyone hear the post bin dippers match interview with Mancini? Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm sure he mentioned something about alot of games when asked about the goalkeeping situation, so IMO Shay might get started and give Joe a rest for Sunderland.

There really is no point in resting a GK. They don't even break sweat and they love playing, it's what keeps them sharp. JH should play in every game possible, what this means for Shay I'm not sure.

Will be interesting this season with Vieira. NDJ has emerged as a really key man so far this season, I just can't see Vieira doing the same job against a top side if and when NDJ gets injured/suspended, but I think Mancini probably sees him as the 2nd choice midfield spoiler. I would go for Yaya/Barry against a big side.

You're probably right about the keeper but I wouldn't play Vieira against Chester FC!

Again it is going to be interesting to see who starts and how they line up, second guessing Mancini is an art form yet to be understood. He stated he will make changes and i suppose that is obvious.
Bearing in mind we are at home and Timisoara will be looking at their best chance is to nick a goal on the break. I wouldn't be surprised to see deJong still in there. Boyata would be a good call. Ade and Jo, Silva and SWP.
But he might throw Milner in again just to see what he can do to teams like Timisoara who are going to sit there.

There are just too many options even with 3 of the new ones out!

I dont have a scooby about the line up but imo Paddy V should be no where near our squad let alone be starting. The guy was a great player at Arsenal but he is just too fuckin slow now.

Maybe he won't play but he is an option which allows others to have a rest and that's the way Mancini is thinking.

Completely untrue. You must have either never played GK or have no appreciation for the position. Obviously they don't need a day off as often as a field player, but to say "they don't even break sweat" is a complete joke...

True. I played school and club football as a GK and the mental concentration by itself especially for a GK is tiring!
Let alone the physical aspect.

To compare the fitness of a goal keeper to the rest of the outfield players is laughable....there is a massive difference imo.

Also true Carl. Goalkeepers go through harder training than any other outfield player ;)
And that is a FACT.

VERY true. Outfield players aren't throwing their bodies around and putting themselves into harm's way. Another huge factor of goalkeeping that the average fan doesn't understand is the communication and responsibility of a GK. They are the coach on the field. They talk non-stop for 90 minutes every game to ensure that the defense is always in position.

So by saying outfield players are more fit than goalkeepers is misleading. Yes, they may be able to run for a longer time, but I guarantee you that most outfield players do not have the mental and physical toughness of the typical GK.

Remember, if an outfield player makes a mistake, no one really notices and the game moves on. If a GK makes a mistake, everybody sees it and it changes the goal game ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxspfInbLV8 ). Some people can't handle that kind of pressure...

Whilst I feel that we will use a different goalie for cup games, I feel it will raise issues... If Hart is our #1 and plays all prem games, with Given playing in cups, Hart will have 1 chance of a medal in the toughest challange of the lot i.e. the Prem. Given would have 3 chances and many of us predict we will do well in competitions such as the League Cup. Would Hart then insist as #1 that he plays in the finals?

I wouldnt have Vieira near the 25 if it was my choice but Mancini clearly likes him around and against garbage like tonight he can give him a game and rest others.Trouble is tonights game might have been an opportunity to give Ibrahim a run out. Or maybe my granny as she could have looked ok out there tonight.Nice pass for SWP's goal but he was virtually never pressured or tackled by a crap team and we all know it would be 100% different against a real team.If he can't " look good " against them.......................
