Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Last season, West Ham last every single pre-season they played, save for one when the kids/reserves got put out against someone like Grays or Benfleet or whoever. You could see that the team were poorly drilled and unaware of each others' roles. We took that into the first months of the season. Scratch that, we never lost the feeling of 11 blokes aimlessly running around.

This season - 5 straight victories, including Borussia Monchengladbach and Olympiakios. 4 clean sheets too.

Let's hope that its a sympton of 'new broom sweeping the changes'.

I'm not for a second suggesting you're likely to suffer a similar fate as us last season, although its interesting to note that Spuds lost 1-4 to Villareal too.

Is it a worrying statistic:

2 for, 8 against

Spot on IBH.

Its called pre-season for a reason, it means sweet fa. We can lose all the remaining pre-season games and i won't be fussed as long as we turn up firing on all cylinders on August 14th.

Yeah, but just say we dont turn up on the 14th August firing on all cylinders?

Too late to do anything about it then.

Oh I don't know. They were shite against Villarreal. And thats with 11 men on the pitch. Plus 'arry ain't happy so the sooner the better

Come to think of it Chelsea were shockingly pants earlier today, dippers have lost two on the bounce and they are committing suicide on Villa talk so slashing your wrists in despair over pre season games is not limited to us I guess :)

its the new fad to shut down expectations.. the result of which will be wall to wall no score draws on the opening day of the season. Littlewoods beware!

I admit there are some pre-season games I want us to win because of who the opposition are but in the main results of friendlies are of no great consequence. What they do in training seems more important.

what they do in training is THE most important thing. Whether our training is going well as far as next season gods I don't know, but you can't slag off boys because of some preseason work out really.

I mean thanks to modern technology I've been able to see ALL our preseason games (crazy really that you get to see even them these days... But that's another discussion) so far and we have been trying all sorts of formations and all sorts of player combos. Fringe players have been given chance to show their skills to manager and in some cases to scouts (seems to have worked with Jo and Garrido for example). It's all about getting things right slowly but surely.

Mancini is experienced manager. He has done this all many times before with different teams. I'm certain he knows what he is doing and I'm not saying this just because I'm Mancini licker. If he sees something out of ordinary, he will try to fix it.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

The best approach to friendlies is the pragmatic one. If you win the game it's an important sign that things are coming together. If you lose you are simply getting some fitness in the legs of the players.

I wonder if people still think results & perfomances still matter in a friendly after a great start?

Only three teams have done better, mate. Is anyone disappointed with four points from tottenham away and scouse one at home?

No we weren't.

Did you watch it? I honestly don't beleieve you could come to that conclusion if you did.

I'm delighted with 4 points mate, and fwiw I don't think friendlies matter one iota. We we're second best against Spurs though and didn't deserve a point. We were hardly 'great'.

I fully agree we weren't great but grinding out results is a very positive sign for me. And to be fair, we did get better even within that one match.

I did and what i saw was that we dominated possession against a top side but were hit with a barrage of attacks in the first half which were kept out by some wonderful saves by Hart.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and us all came away empty handed from Spurs last season and not only did we come away with something, making 200 more passes than they did (which is double what Blackburn made against Everton btw) in our first game with a bunch of new players was not awful neither was coming away with a draw.
