Interesting appointment. He has previous with at least a couple of their team (did I read that he sold Warnock and Heskey while at L'pool?) Mixed record really but spent money at Liverpool and not much to spend at Villa. Wonder if he will look to offload so he can spend next summer? If that's his plan morale could fall to bits pretty quickly. Ashley Young wont stay about, I am surprised he didn't go in the last window and there is not much strength in their squad now.

I'm amazed at this. I don't rate him at all.

i do rate him ... think he'll be a good appointment at villa. They will be in contention for a cup this year and I think he will be able to get good things from stevie.

Apparently phil thompson declined the role of assistant. So, sadly, pinocchio remains seated.

I was looking forward to Ronald Koeman getting the job.
I was hoping for a Ronald / MacDonald partnership for novelty value if nothing else.

It strikes me that Lerner has just looked at his CV with Liverpool and hired him even at the age of 63.
Feel sorry for Alan Curbishley. He is always getting overlooked at the minute. Teams could do alot worse than have him as their manager.

Imo in order to do worse than appoint Alan Curbishley, you'd have to appoint Paul Ince. Otherwise just about anyone else is an improvement.
