After years of slagging us, Cook & Co made a big effort to talk him & his mates round by selling them 'the project' & the idea that we were different to others; would give the manager time etc etc. Holt & his mates printed what Cook told them & were very supportive, often arguing our case against other hacks. While this was going on, Cook was having clandestine meetings with Mancini & proceeded to sack Hughes in one of the worst PR disasters in City's history. Some of the journo's have not & probably never will forgive City for making complete twats out of them in public.

Henry Winter & one or two others seem to be slowly coming round but I think Holt hates our guts now.

Ted, you keep telling us this story and defending their corner, however you do mention that Cook and Co. made an effort to win them round. To most that would suggest that we were just buying their 'Love' and we were selling our soul to the Devil (Worshippers), allowing them into the inner-most sanctums in order for a bit of bullshit publicity.

Maybe, just maybe, it was done in order to piss the slugs off and I for one back our management wholeheartedly in giving these scrotes the treatment they deserve. Most of them are just there to push an agenda, but we are there to push for the title, and Cookie and Co know who'll come out on top.

I'm just not happy to do what the rags do; distort history & come up with scenarios to fit various cock ups we've made & pretend it all went to plan. We need to learn from mistakes, not pretend they didn't happen. We courted the press because we wanted them on our side, no other reason. We fucked up. I have no idea one way or the other as to the real reasons behind the Hughes sacking but I always had the feeling that the decision was made above Cook's head and that Cook was left to carry it out and cop the major flak as well as being made to look a bit of a tit having backed Hughes previously. Anyway rightly or wrongly I do cut Cook some slack on the Hughes sacking or maybe my views on Hughes prevent me from getting too outraged about it. Might as well be honest I guess :)

If enough people give them shit, they will think it's better to not write lies about the club. Woolnough mentioned on his Sunday hack show that he'd been 'slaughtered' by City fans for writing that. No way did he appear particularly happy about it, in fact he seemed concerned, if not a little worried & said very little else. He didn't enjoy our response at all.
