I remember on here, not even two years ago people were telling me how fantastic Hansen was and how his indepth analysis was beyond reproach. I fully expect those people to be leaping to his defence at any moment. Come on....any time.....no?

Fair enough, although I will point out that at the time his credibility was being used to discount my point, thank god I can go back to believing that everything I say is right, it was a harrowing couple of years there.

I'm sure Hansen has been drunk a few times on MOTD over the past 3 or 4 seasons.

Like Beefy said, they are all very one-dimensional, and there are others out there I'd much rather see in their position.

Don't think changing the pundits will work, it needs a complete revamp. It's still stuck in a timewarp where there is only one match of the day, usually involving one of the traditional top 4. That's given over 20 minutes, even if it's the worst 0-0 draw imaginable. For the matches at the end, your lucky if you get to see the goals and they don't even give you the line ups.

Haven't got sky sports, so rarely get to see their Monday night show, but that's what I want - in depth analysis of why a goal was scored, not them deciding before the match that scholes/fabregas/scholes/gerrard/scholes/essien/scholes is a genius and that they are going to show clips of him making a pass for 5 minutes, even if that pass leads to zilch.

Compare motd to the F1 coverage - there's proper build up, on-line and red button coverage at the same time, showing different data and angles etc and following a grand prix, there's more analysis and discussion on the red button. There's nothing else on telly on a Saturday night, so why not go to town with motd? Show a minimum of 5 mins for each game, with teams, stats etc scrolling during the game, as in sky sports, with at least 4 games getting 10 mins each. Have minimal analysis between the games, bordering on none. After all the games have been shown, have an in-depth analysis show on the red button or BBC 4. They can then go through each game looking at the controversial incidents and interesting aspects of defending/attacking. As it's pre-recorded, you could have a choice of which games to watch the analysis on, so if you're really interested in how Wolves drew with Wigan, you can watch it, without having to wait till 3 in the morning for 30 seconds of being patronised. The analysis could also be available for 24 hours, so you could watch on a Sunday etc.

Once that's sorted, they can then find some decent pundits, with knowledge and an opinion. So not Shearer, then.

Its been said on here before but RTE's coverage in Ireland is far far better. Giles, Dunphy, and people like Souness and Brady when theyre on it offer far more relevant comment. They are prepared to disagree with each other and offer forthright opinion. You may disagree with some of it but it is compelling viewing. There is certainly no soft soaping like you see on sky or bbc. Unfortunately I'm not old enough to remember the early 70's panels with Clough, Allison, Dougan et al but you dont need puerile humour and snazzy camera angles, just people talking from experience and with a firm grasp of what the game is all about.

RTE is much better, but it is basically because they are not condescending smarmy toads.. they still show bias but dont try to phrase it in patronising tones they just say what they think.

The root of the prob with MOTD is actually the BBC, which is unbelievably biased and condescending with it.. i mean just watch the news presenters who are supposed to be 'neutral' and their sneering tones reading the snooze, sometimes unbelievable.

i dont watch MOTD ever, or the News or the BBC.. i just get glimpses by accident occasionally which is enough.
Tbh Sky is no better either. We need a fuclin revolution in the media.. purge out all the snotty student types and anyone who plays golf.

The day you find yourself in agreement with Stan Collymore, you must begin to question your own judgement.
The guy talks (or shouts) absolute and complete shite and makes the pundits on MoTD sound like three wise men.

ok it is a bit ironic from Collymore, but whatever he is right and finally someone has the guts to come out and say it. He also makes a really important point about the totally biased editing of matches.

Someone needs to point out that motd is insanely patronising to all football fans. Surely even fans of Chelsea, Arse, Pool and the rags must get sick of the smugness that eminates from the bbc.

I hope this story gets some legs in the football press.

The last time i watched MOTD it was ok at best, nothing to get excited about and definately nothing to revolve your evening viewing around. When it's on on a Saturday night i'm either still out after a good session or in the pit with the Mrs playing doctors & nurses. The repeat is on way too early the following day because i'm normally rough from the previous night with a stethoscope hanging out my arse.

I would rather watch Goals on Sunday as it is on at a more reasonable time of the day.

Nothing personal there, BBS. I didn't have time to read the entire thread as I'm blocked from this site most of the day. I skimmed it and threw in my two penneth.

Despite how bad or wrong the MoTD team are, Collymore is the worst pundit I have ever heard by a country mile. I do understand that he deliberately antagonises listeners to get them to call in, but the stuff he says to do it is beyond ridiculous.

That said....I do find myself listening to him. It's a bit like picking a scab or looking at a car crash. You shouldn't because you'll regret it but just can't help yourself.
